It was very important that they get this one right.  The Bucs are the only team in the NFL that has never had a QB start more than 80 games.  They took the best QB prospect to come out of college since Peyton Manning.  With the weapons the Bucs have on offense, the environment is ripe for Famous Jameis to light it up.

Actually he's got a point.   Luck never won a Heisman or a BCS National Championship in college.  He also didn't engineer as many comebacks.

Give me a break, he didn't engineer comebacks? Are you F'ing kidding me!  If you two think Winston is better than Luck then you know nothing (yes nothing) about football

Re-read what the other guy wrote.  He said he didn't engineer AS MANY.  Florida State had to play catch up in nearly every game last year because the defense sucked.  If it wasn't for Jameis, they easily lose 2-3 games.

Jameis played his best football when his back was against the wall.  He also is the alpha male that can get in his teammates faces for poor play and encourage them to finish strong.  Not to mention he played in a pro style offense as opposed to the spread option, which has been a death knell in the NFL.

He's going to have a similar career to guys like Testiverde and to a lesser extent, Warren Moon (a poor man's version)...lot's of TDs, lot's of turnovers.

This.

I think in 3 years, the Bucs will still be sitting at #1 overall looking for the next QB to replace Winston.

I think Winston is a fine prospect, and if surrounded by enough support, both talent and character-wise, I think he can have a solid career. I'm not going to go quite as far as saying he's a better prospect coming out of college as Andrew Luck though. Yes, Winston played on a better team, but I define prospect as being what their "prospect" is for being an outstanding pro, and Luck was a once-in-a-generation type of talent. I see Winston's upside being Cam Newton or Matt Ryan. I see Luck's as being Peyton Manning...and Luck is already starting to show it.

To put it another way... If every player in the NFL was suddenly thrown back into the pool, and every team had to redraft their entire roster, Andrew Luck would be #1 or #2, and I don't believe that Jameis Winston would crack the top 25.

The idea that winning a Heisman and/or a national championship defines your status as a prospect is amusing.  I guess Cam Newton was also a better prospect than Luck!

I can think of another quarterback with a Heisman and 2 national championships that was out of the league until a few weeks ago...

I think they both suck honestly. I am not sure any quality QB's are in this draft.

the Winston picture last night with the crab legs shows this clown doesn't get it. And he clearly put on an act for a few months in the lead up to the draft. Once he was picked, back to acting like a fool and making bad decisions. Good Luck Tampa you just picked Johnny Manziel 2.0

Well, that hardly seems a fair comparison since one of those has had a chance to prove himself.

Who would you take before Luck in such a draft, btw?

Rodgers for sure, maybe Brady depending on the rest of your team.
