I hope Philbin gives Suh permsission to whip his ass in the first training camp fight to help "educate" him.

This draft is starting to look eerily similar to 2011.  Jeff Ireland hit a home run drafting Mike Pouncey, then left everyone saying WTF when he traded up to draft Daniel Thomas.  Fans were right on both counts as Pouncey was a stud and Thomas was a bust.

We all know how the 2011 season turned out as well

I don't have a problem drafting the kid as everyone agrees he is incredibly talented, he just needs a huge kick in the ass. Suh will give that to him, so I am fine with that. The problem is the O-Line is still screwed and for the 8970876th season running, that's our biggest concern. I don't know why this wasn't addressed in free agency or now the draft and a 4th rounder is not addressing it.

We have to pray Mathis gets released(which is possible because Chip Kelly hates him for some reason) and we can afford him somehow.

He is a projected 1st round pick that was still available the the mid 2nd round. Watching the film, I can understand why people have a concern about his effort. Often times you see him just taking up two blockers or sitting at the LOS. He says it is because of the defense, I can also see that as well. Typically a 0 technique in a 3-4 is there to take up blockers and it can look as if they are not doing anything because they aren't penetrating or sacking the QB that often.

He also played A LOT of snaps in Oklahoma.

In the Dolphins system, he will be asked to do a little more penetrating and will be part of a rotation.

This particular coaching tactic has not worked out well for Philbin in the past.

This pick scares me.  I don't think that this guy's potential negatives are a good fit for our team's potential negatives.

It would have worked just fine in the past if Jonathan Martin had not been a giant vagina who should have been on a chess team instead of a football team.  I'm thinking that Jordan Phillips is probably a bit more of a man than Martin was.

Can Philbin get in front of a camera and say, "I allowed Suh to give this kid a good beating so he would straighten up"?
If not, then he shouldn't be doing it.

If Philbin is so lazy and/or incompetent as a coach that he needs his players to physically beat up rookies to get them to perform, then he shouldn't be a coach.  I doubt Bill Belichick or Pete Carroll had Logan Mankins or Earl Thomas kicking the crap out of rookies to get them to fall in line.

I was really only being about half serious when I said that Philbin should tell Suh to get after Phillips.  But to respond to your comment about a coach being incompetent if he has to depend on his players to beat up rookies to get them to perform, I only agree with you to an extent.  A professional in sports or really any job, should not need the motivation or persuasion of others to get them to perform.  You get paid to do a job.  So do it.

Oftentimes, though, again whether in sports or really anywhere else, peer pressure to do your job can sometimes be a greater motivator than pressure from your boss (coach).  In the military, if you aren't keeping up, your peers are going to be kicking you in the ass just as much as your supervisor.  In sports it is often the same.

So if Tom Brady is getting on his team, he's a leader, but if Suh is doing it Philbin is a bad coach?

Woe unto the WR on the Fins during the 80s who dared to drop a ball and had to endure "the glare" from both Coach Shula AND Marino.  They would team up on someone who made a bonehead play and cut them to shreds.

There is an enormous difference between being scared of a teammate or coach criticizing you, and being scared of a teammate physically assaulting you.

If Tom Brady was being a leader by beating the crap out of his receivers that took plays off, yes, that would mean Belichick is a bad coach.
