Xtra points moved to the 15 yard line. Two point conversions still from the 2 yard line

So basically nothing will change teams will still kick the 1 and not be enticed to go for 2 unless they have to

I'll assume he'll say it's cause Sturgis can't make a 30 yard FG (or whatever it actually calculates out to).

A weird wrinkle on the new rule is that a penalty on an extra point kick with the line of scrimmage on the 15 can be carried over to a two-point conversion attempt. So if the D jumps offsides on the extra point try, the offense can elect to go for 2 from the 1 yard line (half the distance) -- or kick with a line of scrimmage on the 10.

Please. His numbers on short kicks aren't bad

What about personal fouls?  If you get penalized 15 on the XP, do they move it out to the 30?  That becomes a big kick at that point.

Some people are just never happy.  I wonder if there are any players on the Dolphins that he likes...

I feel like this is a rule change just for the sake of changing something.  Its not like the percentage of success from the 32 yard line is appreciably different than that from the 19 yard line.

I agree. I thought he was pretty much money on field goals under 40, it's the longer ones he has had issues with.

A little research numbers:

Kickers were 97.66% from 0-29 yards last season, league wide.  (they don't seperate stats byt the 32 yard line readily)

6 missed FG's, 257 attempts:  Patrick Murray, Blair Walsh, Greg Zuerlein, Josh Brown, Randy Bullock, Shaun Suisham

Extra points: 99.35% last season, 1230 attempts.  8 missed XP's

Jay Feely, Robbie Gould, Kai Forbath, Greg Zeurlein, Shayne Graham, Dan Carpenter, Mason Crosby (2x)

The percentages are 1.7% different, assuming the trend persists, we can expect to roughly 21 additional missed XP this season as a result of this rule change.

Sturgis missed only 1 FG inside 40 yards last season, making him 95.24 % accurate in that range (20/21).  This puts him 14th in the league, behind - you guessed it - Dan Carpenter (95.45%).  Only 11 kickers were perfect from that range, including 2 that only had 2-3 attempts.

Now celebration penalties after touchdowns will be huge.

Also, it hurts the Dolphins, even if ever so slightly because Ghostowski is better than Sturgis.
