Seriously? Look at this photo (from the Bleacher Report thread) and explain how lining the DBs so far off the line of scrimmage on a short yardage play is not a scheme issue?

It's not the scheme. The players decide how far off to play. It's the individual player making the decision.

Then this team is worse than I thought and I wasn't sure that was possible at this stage.

Even if the players make the call, why wouldn't the coach, you know... coach them and tell them that it's a bad idea?

^^^ Bingo, I was just coming back to add that. The lack of scheming doesn't necessarily mean that the issue is not the scheme (or lack thereof).

This is the next logical step.  The coaches aren't responsible for an isolated bad player's decision.  But they are responsible for continued bad choices.

Exactly.  This is why they review game film with players.  I find it hard to believe that the players all decided to play that far off the LOS.  Either it was the scheme the DC wanted to use, or it was very poor coaching in not corrected the players.

When was the last time you saw any dolphins defender bump a WR at the line?

When was the last time you saw a run that wasn't between the tackles?

When was the last time you saw the Dolphins blitz?

When was the last time you saw them pull a guard?

The schemes are so vanilla, they don't do many of the things that more successful teams do every game.  Stretch runs, counters, misdirection, just all seems like its either a run up the gut or a play action pass.  Even the read option that worked so well last season is gone from the playbook.

DBs have been playing off in Lazor's system for a long time.

It is up to Lazor to tell the DBs to crowd receivers and bump them in the 5 yard area.

He either hasn't done that or he has and they are not listening.

Either way, it ultimately falls on him.

If Lazor has any say in how the Dolphins' DBs play, something is seriously wrong in Miami.

It can't be worse than Coyle having any say.

Miami Herald tidbit says the Fins players are bitching that the last 2 Thursday's they have had full 2 hour practice in full pads.  Players saying its too draining to do that so late in the week and nobody on the team is happy about it. Philbin has stated heard the complaints and is looking into adjusting things.

Well jees Joe, since you did this full Thursday practice your team has lost 2 games in grand fashion and your team has mailed it in on you each week and plays with no life or emotion, you keep looking into it instead of just listening to the players and them telling you its too draining and it's effecting them on Sunday.

Thursday is too hard to work on Sunday?  Undecided That is pretty pussified and explains a lot.  I hope none of them would admit that publicly. Their muscles would fully recover by Saturday (48 hours) so Sunday they should be very well rested.

Joe Rose and Omar were commenting on Tuesday about how the players keep saying they love Joe and that they haven't quit on him. They followed up that that isn't necessarily a good thing because if they just like him only because he let's them do what they want then that is a bad thing.

They used to complain about that with Wannestedt too, and he lightened up, which of course had no effect.

Bingo. Players played in full pads all week (I do realize there were light days so let's not nitpick my statement) up until fairly recently. I bet if they full padded on Tuesday it would be too soon from the last game. I'm beginning to get really pissed about the attitude of professional football players (there are several aspects that upset me before) and their willingness to put in work.
