It makes sense if you want to keep as much of your coaching staff in place as possible and I think there is some merit in that. Think about it. All you really need is to find a TE's coach now. How tough can that be? I think Coyle and Lazor are staying for at least 2 weeks. This makes sense if your desire is to try to hold it together like they are saying they do and see if a different head coach really can make a difference or if the staff really sucks as bad as the players are playing. This is now on Coyle and Lazor. If things get better, then Philbin was the problem or at least that will be the assumption. If things don't get better than Philbin really didn't matter and Coyle and Lazor are at least equally to blame for this disaster and they'll be gone before long too.

Now it's time for Coyle and Lazor to put up or be shown the door. It's their jobs on the line now. You got 2 weeks to show some progress or you will be next. In the mean time, start checking resumes for offensive and defensive coordinators.

The other thing is that Campbell is the polar opposite of Philbin. Again, test the waters. See what happens with this team when you go from the coach who doesn't get riled when his son drowns to the coach who is gonna get in your grill when you miss an assignment. How do the players react to that? Positive or negative? Who steps up and who lays down? All good things to find out THIS year.

If Coyle has  job by tomorrow I would be a bit surprised.

Yeah really. Its the bye week. If Coyle remains, he isn't going to get fired two weeks later.

If Coyle isn't fired sometime today then odds are he is staying. I'm shocked he is still employed and wasn't let go yesterday honestly

Yes, not sure why Campbell is hesitant to make this decision. It seems like a no-brainer.

I'm not sure if Campbell has that power to make that call and fire Coyle. Campbell might be a puppet honestly. Ross/Hickey/Tannenbaum are probably making the call on Coyle

it should still be a no brainer. His defense is ranked 57th against the run and 43rd overall in a 32 team league.

I read somewhere that Tannenbaum said Campbell has full authority to make the calls on the staff and anything else he wants to change.

Quote
NFL Network’s Albert Breer reported this morning that Dolphins interim coach Dan Campbell will make a decision on Coyle’s future today and that team executive vice president Mike Tannenbaum has given Campbell full power to make staff decisions.

Yep, Ross said in his statement that Campbell has control over the staff. That said, you can't get ris of absolutely everyone because coaches already have jobs and aren;t leaving one to take one under an interim coach mid-season.

If you can promote a TE coach to head coach you can promote a LB coach to DC.

^^^ Yes, but that wasn't my point. I probably should have been more clear that I was talking about outside candidates. Given the performance of our staff do you actually think any of the position coaches are qualified to take on the role? I've got little to no faith on anyone on the staff at this point.

Honestly does it matter? Not like they are going to turn it around this year. This year is over, it's a lost season.  A new DC whether inside hire or outside hire isn't making Cam Wake 5 years younger? Won't make Walt Aikens a capable NFL player. Won't make Shephard a decent MLB. Yes Coyle sucks and the coaching is bad, but coaching can only fix so much. The players aren't there

Maybe the new DC can at least get Suh to wear cleats to practice?

They aren't getting any benefit of the doubt from me. They don't just sit around waiting on instructions from above. These guys have been responsible for coaching all week as well and they have not been performing.
