I want the kid to succeed. I kinda make the comparison to Phillip Rivers. But my question,  IS THE RYAN TANNEHILL EXPERIENCE soon to be over. Is it time for the Fins to start Drafting for the future. Matt Moore is getting too comfortable in his bakup role. He know he isn't going to get on the field.  I believe its time to start lighting a fire under Tanny's ass as well. While i granted the O-line cant stop a midget from getting through but hell,  I remember growing up Dan Marino some of his lineman was not that great and he still manage to put up numbers.  What Do you all think??

Um, they just gave him a $96 mill contract. Tannehill is here to stay for many years

If you watch the games it's clear he isn't the problem. Last year and those numbers did happen. Give the kid some blocking and a running game and he would be fine. This year the offensive line can't block anyone and the running game is lost. So of course he sucks. Same thing is happening in Indy with Luck. Luck has no o-line and running game and his numbers are worse than Tannehill's.

It takes a village, they can't do it alone. Whether Tannehill, Luck, or whoever. If the blocking is god awful to the point its not even there and you have no threat of a running game to keep a defense honest the QB will struggle.

Marino had great o-lines when he played. Tannehill is behind 2 guys who aren't even NFL players (Thomas and Douglas). And another in Fox who is lucky to have an NFL job.

Yes, Tannehill needs to step up. Yes, we shouldn't put all our eggs in his basket, but MikeO is right in regards to where responsibility lies.

Look at Brady's numbers when he gets pressured all game, they are garbage. Not even the greats can work with 1 second to throw. I give him a pass for everything this season so far.

How bad did Brady look at the beginning of last season before his Oline picked it up and Gronk returned?

Maybe Tannehill is not a franchise QB, but as long as the protection remains an issue, we will never have a definitive answer on this.

The author is right though, Suh and Tannehill are not the problems. NFL Network broke down the Suh thing last week in depth with video. No other d-linemen is doing anything. Suh can only do so much. Vs the Jets he was the ONLY one who brought pressure and that's when he had to line up at RDE and not NT. And with Tannehill we have gone over it, if he gets hit on every play and has zero time to throw....i don't care who ya are.

When you have a GM (Hickey) and a HC (Philbin) who thought Turner and Thomas were good enough as starting guards. Then waited till Round 4 in the draft to address the o-line....it tells you how out of touch and clueless they are.

The most telling part of this article, and something we are discussing in another thread, is what the defensive ends are being asked to do. They are being asked to take a split second to determine the play and then react.

This is stupid.

Defense is often times about guessing right based on tendencies, looking at the situation, the down and distance. Defense is about disruption. Asking a defensive end to determine if it is a pass or run during the play before the play happens is absurd. It would work great in a 3-4 scheme, but we scrapped that a long time ago. Asking a defensive tackle to wait to see what the play is and then decide which shoulder they are going to attack the offensive lineman on is ridiculous.

This is exactly why our defense is always on its heels. We aren't taking it to the opponent, we are letting them dictate what we do. Defense should be about taking strengths away, not about waiting to see what each play is going to be. These defenders are out their thinking too much.

Meanwhile the defenses we go against are saying "we know they aren't going to run, so we are going to blitz the shit outta Tannehill and man up on their receivers so he has to hold the ball for an extra second".

Meanwhile, our offensive coordinator knows the blitz is coming, but he's still running empty sets.

Our coordinators have set us up to fail.

^If this is really what our defense is doing, then they better fire Coyle.  That is ridiculous.  Unless he's on a zone blitz, the DE should be getting a jump on the snap almost EVERY TIME and keeping outside contain.  If the play is run away from you, crash the line.  If they run towards you, you have outside contain.  LBs plug up holes in between.  This is defensive football 101.  LINEBACKERS read and react unless blitzing, not freaking defensive linemen!

Without knowing the inner working of the team it is impossible to know who to blame but here is the crux of the problem.

There is basically two ways to build and team and game plan.

1. Start with game plan.  Have a system and go out and get players that fit that system.  If you are going to run the 4-3 don't sign players that are better suited for the 3-4.

2. Start with the players.  Get the best available players, then design the game plan around the strengths of those players.

Rarely does a team deploys either one purely rather a hybrid.

However what the dolphins did was neither.  The GM went out and got players without any regard for the system that the DC uses.  And the DC stuck with his system even though he didn't have the players to run it properly.

Before signing Suh, there needed to be a discussion regarding if he it fit into Coyle's system and if not should the fins either not peruse him or change defenses.

Not to mention they are usually down by 14 before the 1st quarter is over.

Yes, I think the offense has had trouble getting going and some of that can be blamed on Tannehill, but if anyone is looking at Tannehill as if he's the problem that's pretty much like looking at Jarvis Landry and saying he sucks because he's not getting 100 yards a game. C'mon guys you have to look at the big picture of what is going on. The whole thing is a mess. Tannehill didn't create this mess, but he is being asked to try to find an answer where I'm not convinced that Brett Favre could find one.

I agree with you DZA, they need to light a fire up Tannehill's ass, if that means looking at a possible draft pick, great. Personally, I can't wait for the Tannehill experience to be over with.

Yep, because the 452 QBs that started before him and after Dan Marino were so good.

All I ask is that we give him a decent O-line and running game before we allow him to go somewhere else and succeed.
