Ian Rapaport reporting the Fins reached out to Jim Schwartz about being the defensive coordinator, he said no.

Not shocking, he is looking for a Head coaching job and he will get one after the season. Why jump into this dumpster fire and hurt your resume in any way if the defense doesn't turn it around. Don't blame him for not wanting to be a part of that as a DC

So what were you saying about "those days are over of being turned down for interviews"?

It's deja vu all over again with this front office.  They don't have the balls to fire Coyle, and yet again they are trying to find replacements for someone who still has a job.

Different circumstance. Schwartz has a nice job with the league office plus why would he leave to be a DC of a team that is an utter disaster and in the midst of firing coaches mid-season.

If Schwartz turns down a head coaching interview (or anyone does after the season) then throw it in my face. This doesn't qualify...sorry

Has anyone ever been hired from outside an organization as coordinator during the season? I can't think of anyone.

Me neither. I'm surprised they even tried to get someone, if indeed they did reach out to Schwartz.

Not a shock. Even if he does a good job and the team turns it around to 10-6, like MikeO said, he wants a head coaching gig and I'd be surprised if Miami fired our interim coach after going 9-3. Plus, if they hire a new coach that usually means brand new coordinators. Getting fired from Miami doesn't look good for him.

We are just a disaster right now, better to promote from within IF we fire Coyle. But, he does have to go. Put a fucking fan as DC if we must, but Coyle has to go or else the players will stop listening.

Which is more likely?

A)  Offered Schwartz the DC job and he said no
B)  Someone (media) asked Schwartz if he would be the DC for MIA and he said no

The way the media is making shit up recently, I would go with B).

^^^^ True but we have learned to never underestimate our ineptness.

Maybe we can have Zach Thomas finish out the season as DC? He's very intelligent and definitely full of passion. JT could be his asst. I mean ... why not have fun with it?

^^ Sounds like the NY Post suggestion of Dan Marino as new Dolphins head coach.

Really?

I thought the same thing - here we go interviewing a guy's replacement before firing the current guy again.  If you want a new DC, have the balls to dump the current guy first, then go hunting.

You have the infrastucture in place already. You aren't going to make major changes. You just need somone to tweak things and hold down the fort until next year. If Campbell turns out to be better than that then that's a bonus.

Closest example I can think of is josh McDaniel being hired during the post season to replace Obrien for the following season
