My alma mater, Florida Atlantic University, hired known douche Lane Kiffin to be head coach.  And though a douche, now he's our douche.  I think it's a good hire for both FAU and for Kiffin.  We need a name to help with local recruiting.  He can't get another big job without going through a small school and he'll probably have free-reign with FAU to do whatever he wants.

Good luck to him with that program.   He can load up on all the two and three star recruits that get rejected by Miami, Florida and Florida State.   Coach them up and get to a mid tier bowl game.  Conference USA is pretty equal talent wise.   It's all about coaching.

If he couldn't win at Tennessee or USC, he isn't winning at FAU.

^ Different stakes and different goal.  FAU is still so young that they need a recruiting pipeline within the state.

Howard Schnellenberger helped start the program and build a stadium.  The Hurricanes don't even have a stadium, so that was a big deal.

There is a lot of talent in S. Florida and they can't all start for Florida/FSU/Miami.  So, Kiffin helps bring in guys that either can't get on those rosters at all, or more importantly, guys that could make a Florida roster, but would be riding the bench for 2 years.  FAU can showcase them and Kiffin can help get guys in the pros.

Plus, it's not like FAU's competition is what Tennessee faces in the SEC.

And how is Lane Kiffin going to recruit those guys if the known story on him is he is only there to get a shot at another school? Players aren't looking for a head coach who bails like Lane Kiffin is known and expected to do. He isn't there to build that program.

Who knows how long he'll be there...certainly more than their 4 years, I'd think.

Plus, he's a big name.  He's better than what we had, which are coaches that nobody had ever heard of.

Kiffin is a great pickup for FAU.

Kiffin wasted no time making a splash.  He's gotten a commitment from De'Andre Johnson who made the news last year when he got kicked out of FSU for hitting a girl at a night club

Fau is going to be the home of every player too screwed up to meet the low behavior standards of other schools.  Kiffin will make headlines probably win a decent number of games but puts the program at greater risk of NCCA sanctions.

That's what I was thinking as well.  The program might get 2 more wins per year, but the Boca Raton crime rate will go up.   Grin

Considering the stadium's naming rights belong to a prison company, that fits perfectly

That deal was cancelled due to pressure against the sponsor. It is just FAU Stadium.
