So to continue this metagame:

1) kicking team kicks backwards and downs at their own 5
2) illegal touching is called, 5-yard penalty and re-kick
3) kicking team kicks backwards and downs at their own 5 again

What happens now?  Taking the ball at the spot of dead ball/illegal touch would be at the 5.

Although I must say it would be quite an achievement for a kicker to kick the ball backwards 30 yards without going offsides.  In fact, it might be literally impossible.
