THE ASSCLOWN AWARD

« on: September 26, 2017, 03:43:20 pm »

I didn't like that call.

When you are down 17-0 in the third quarter, teams are more likely to be on the lookout for stuff like that.

Also, it was fourth and seven, which means you probably have to pass the ball.  I don't know how good our new punter is at passing, but unless he was looking amazing in practice, I don't think you want him passing in that situation.

If you were going to call a pass play, why not just go for it?  I think you have to in that situation anyway, being down 17-0 in the third quarter.

What do you think?

For once, I agree with you.  Just punt the ball, don't get cute.

I didn't really care one way or the other.  When nothing has worked for you in an entire three quarters of football, trying something strange just to change the pace of things isn't terrible.

I think it was a bad call. However, I could be wrong. But if I remember correctly, the receiver was open. If he had put less air under the ball and lead the receiver a bit more it could have been an easy reception for a long gain. Maybe even a score if the ball placement was right. It was just a bad throw.

It's hard to criticize that, of all plays.

We couldn't move the ball.  We couldn't get a first down.  We could barely even get positive yardage.  So, to punt there, you're effectively ending the game anyway.  That team on the field that day wasn't about to come back three scores, so it doesn't matter.

I like the play.  Nothing is working for you so if you stay on your current path you are going to lose.  If it works it could be the spark that turns around the game, if it fails you are on the same downward spiral you already on, so really no downside.
