Texans just hired former Patriots exec Nick Cesario as their new GM.  Isn't he one of the guys who dropped out of the Dolphins GM job opening back in 2013 after that embarrassing season?

Name rings a bell. For his sake, I hope he explained to the ownership clearly that this team won't even win 7 games until 2023 due to no draft picks, cap space or talent.

I just saw that the Texans were 2-8 this year in one score games. I'm pretty sure THE OPPOSITE was their mark in 2019 when I got angry every week over them winning by 4 points.

Were they unlucky this season or overrated last season?

Neither.  They traded away some key players.  That made the difference between winning close games and losing them. Getting rid of Hopkins for a washed up David Johnson was a huge mistake

That trade would've been the worst trade of the past 10 years if not for the trade he made with us.

The Hopkins trade was worse.  HOU got a Pro Bowl LT out of the MIA trade, which is more than they got for Hopkins.

Yes, but the draft pick cost was too much. In hindsight, would he have made the trade knowing 2021 would be the 3rd overall pick?

Well, that depends on how much of the future you know.  Strictly speaking, if O'Brien knows it's the #3 pick in 2021, then he probably also figures he will have been fired by the Texans anyway, so he probably doesn't care.

When O'Brien made that trade, his expectation was that it would be for two picks in the mid-20s.  That's a completely fair price for (what you hope to be) a Pro Bowl LT.

The Texans made the trade before the 2019 draft.  They made the playoffs and won a playoff game.  Well worth whatever picks they gave up.

They made the deal after the 2019 draft, but before the 2019 season had started.

Two 1st rounders and a 2nd rounder for a LT with 2 years of control? That's pretty steep. I understand why he did this stupid trade, he was going all in for a Superbowl and I can respect that as long as it didn't ruin the team for years to come.

Which it did. No reason to think they will win more than 6 games next year with no draft picks or cap space.

There was more to the trade than just Tunsil; MIA sent a 4th along with Stills, and got some chum along with the picks.  That's why I'm characterizing it as 2 firsts, though you could argue it was less.

Not to start a new topic, but Watson is not even speaking to the team. They came to him with their GM search and wanted his input. They basically ignored whatever he said and he found out they hired a new GM from Twitter. That's almost purposely being an asshole to him.

The organization sucks and I support Watson 100%. Realistically, the next 2-3 years of his career are going to be wasted in last place. The kid never stopped playing no matter how lost the season was, I have a lot of respect for that.

New Orleans, New England, Green Bay, Pittsburgh, Tampa Bay, and Indy would be wise to seek out a trade for him.  Their QB's are getting long in the tooth.

Well, not GB. They have the presumptive NFL MVP and just spent a #1 on Jordan Love.
