The Detroit Lions have fired coach Matt Patricia and general manager Bob Quinn, the team announced Saturday.

NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported that offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell will serve as the Lions' interim coach, per an informed source.

Patricia's firing comes two days after the Lions suffered a blowout loss to the Houston Texans on Thanksgiving Day, which put the team's record at 4-7.

Throw in the Jets, Jaguars and one of the NFC East losers and we got a lot of head coaching vacancies going into the offseason. I would say the Texans but they are so horribly run, they will probably stick with Romeo.

Fun fact: Parcells record without BB as DC:68-80-1.  W/ BB as DC 115-58.

You can even say his roots are barren w/o him.

Gase shouldn't be able to get a High School coaching job after he get fired by the Jets.  He is truly inept in every aspect of coaching.  Rivaled only by the totally mystifying game management of Chargers coach Anthony Lynn.  Unlike Gase who seems like just an unlikeable weirdo, Anthony Lynn seems like a really good guy but damn, some of the stuff he does during the course of a game.

Funny you say that because yesterday with 2 minutes to go and the Bills facing a 3rd and 19 on the Chargers 38, he plays prevent defense to let them get 12 yards but not the first. The Bills were up by 7 and it went from a hard 55 yard FG to a much easier 43 yard FG. With a 10 point lead, it basically ended the game. Why play prevent? Not to mention after the Hail Mary with no timeouts, they run the ball.

He will probably be gone too but that's a pretty desirable job. Not like the Jets job with the local media, bad ownership and lack of talent.

Fun Fact:
BB is 134 - 46 with Flores as an assistant or: .8375
BB is 17 - 10 without Flores as an assistant or: .6296

You can even say that BB is just normal without him!

Assuming you numbers are correct, there are multiple head coaches inducted in the HOF with a win percentage lower than .630.

However, I suspect your numbers are wrong as BB was headcoach for considerably more than 27 games without Flores, including two superbowl wins.

Also Flores has a losing record when not matched with BB.  And a losing record head to head against BB.  An strong argument can be made BB is responsible for BP’s success, not the case with Flores for BB.

Patricia should have been fired after the end of last season, and the owners of the team should be forced to sell the team.  Jim Caldwell took over the Lions in 2014 and over his four years he had records of 11-5, 7-9, 9-7, 9-7, winning seasons in three out of four.  Over the 20 year period from 1998-2017 the Lions only had five winning seasons, three of them by Caldwell.  They finally had a coach that was getting wins and they fired him.  Enter Patricia to return the Lions to their losing ways with wins of 6, then 3, and only 4 this year.

Back to Patricia, and others, some are great coordinators but don't have the ability to be Head Coaches.  Just like some are great position coaches but aren't good coordinators.  Some college coaches are good NFL coaches.  Patricia, Gase, and others need to go back to what they are good at, because they certainly are not NFL head coaching material.

Classic peter’s principle. Rex Ryan was a phenomenal DC and lousy HC.

Sometimes a HC can be not that great the first time, but come back and excel.  For example both Belichick and Pete Carrol were better on the second go.

You must still be upset over Ryan's teams beating your Patriots.  Ryan wasn't a lousy HC, he wasn't stellar either, but he wasn't lousy.  He never had a great, or even very good QB, while coaching the Jets and Bills, yet his teams were mostly .500 or better (his last year with the Jets with only 4 wins was his only really bad year.  I would say he got his Jets Teams to outperform their abilities, and his players generally liked him.

I think he was good with the Jets initially but his loyalty to Sanchez really hurt him, not to mention his influence in the drafts where they kinda put all their eggs in the defense basket.
