NFL Network has been reporting, along with a few other places that the Niners are very interested in drafting Mac Jones. I normally would chalk this up to typical draft smoke screens but they have the pick to take him so why even bother faking it?

If this is true, why the hell did they trade all that draft capital to move up to 3 to draft a guy that probably would've been there at 12? At the very least, keep a 1st rounder and just move up to 8th to take him.

Mac Jones will be there in the late first round.  If he is their target, this is a huge huge reach

Lots of QB needy teams in the Top 10. I can see 5 QBs going in the first 9 picks. I don't think he will last until the 20s but it isn't out of the realm of possibility he would've been there at 12. I wouldn't have moved up higher than 8th if he is the target. This has to be a nonsense report, he can't be their guy. I figure it is Trey Lance or Justin Fields.

I don't think Mac Jones makes it past NE at #15.  To me, he's a 2nd round QB that will be drafted in the 1st because teams need QBs.

At this time of year, I don't believe a single word that comes out about who is interested in who in the draft.  No NFL team is going to show their hand before the draft and if anything, they are going to throw out fake smoke signals to throw other teams off the scent of who they are really interested in.  NFL teams consider the media to be "useful idiots" (to steal a political term) and they use the media to spread disinformation leading up to the draft.

I guess I'm the only one who thinks Jones will be a great NFL QB. He seems very intelligent in his decision making and is accurate to boot. I think that will work well if he gets into the right system.

49ers will be taking either Trey Lance or Justin Fields with the #3 pick. That QB will back up Garrapolo for his rookie season, or until Jimmy gets hurt...whichever comes first.

That's what I am saying, although I am still not sure Jimmy will be on the team come Week 1. Don't you think it might hurt team chemistry and development of the young QB if everyone knows Jimmy is gone in 2022?

If you feel a player is YOUR player, then you go get him, you don't sit back and HOPE that someone else doesn't take him. THAT's stupid. That will blow up in your face more often then hoping he falls to you. Now if they don't really think that Mac Jones IS the QB they want then yeah wait to see what happens, but obviously that wasn't the case.

I agree with that to an extent. Mac Jones is not going 3rd so there was no need to trade with Miami. He wasn't going 4th, 5th or 6th either. Likely not 7th or 8th too. Move up from 12 to be sure? No problem. Use 2 first rounders and a 3rd to select a guy that might have been available at 12? Madness.

Not impressive at all...

Justin Fields will be the #3 pick for SF. Write it in ink.

Just watched it.  He might've just cost himself millions.  I see him as a day two pick now.

In a normal year he would've been a Day 2 pick but we have an unusually high number of QB needy teams this year so he is going to Sam Darnold himself into a Top 10 pick probably.
