I don't think "60+" is a fair metric (if that's what you were going on).  There's a very big difference between 61 and 64; much bigger than the difference between 58 and 61.

There aren't enough kicks from exactly 64 to get data.  60+ is what was provided.

If you want to shave some percentage points, go for it.  It's negligible.  These are all estimates anyway.

He didn’t do much today to change perceptions. The fans even mocked their lack of clock management by audibly counting down during plays.

Staring to look like all these "The 2022 AFC West is the best division in the history of sports" takes might have been a bit premature.

It made sense in the preseason. Broncos were good last year despite terrible QB play. So, they get Russel Wilson. Seemed like a no brainer to call it an upgrade. Raiders were in a similar boat but with bad coaching instead of QB play. They get Josh McDaniels and.....yeah. Chargers......yeah.

Great for us but I think this is going to turn into the worst prediction of the year.

Yeah, that was great. He is in way over his head, this is his first time calling plays and it shows.

Be leery of coaches that come over from teams with great QBs, a lot of their problems seem to be masked by them. Having a great offense with Aaron Rodgers is not impressive because you're supposed to.

It is a close judgement call.

If you go for it on 4th down and don't make it, you lose the game.  If you go for it and convert you still haven't won the game.
But the timeout allows you to do either. Once the clock ran down then you are basically looking at either a long kick or a hail mary. That severely limits your choices. If you call the timeout immediately you can go for the 1st down and still have time to get closer for a FG or TD. The timeout is the correct choice in either case.

Nope.  If you are going for it you want a timeout to preserve time, if you are attempting to kick a field goal you want to run the clock down as far as possible to give the other time as little chance as possible to score a FG of their own.

But you should NEVER sacrifice your chance at taking the lead in favor of giving the opponent less time to score. That's what he did, gave his team LESS chance to score for the possibility that should they score the other team will have less chance to score. Take the lead first, then worry about them scoring. How about trusting your defense to not allow them into FG range? That's a very bad trade in my opinion. With over 45 seconds left if you go for it (it's 4th and 5, VERY makeable, much moreso than either a hail mary or a 60+ yard FG). Essentially he had already made the decision to kick the FG even before the 3rd down play was over unless they got a 1st down presumably. I'm sorry, but I think that's a bad decision. Let the outcome of the play make your decision for you. Take the timeout and make the decision on the sidelines to go for it or try the kick not while the clock is ticking down. Heck you could try to draw them offsides and then take the timeout if you want. Either way if you don't make it you're not winning and with under a minute to play if you take the lead your defense should be able to hold the other team from scoring. Once you let the clock run down then you no longer even have a decision to make, you HAVE to kick the FG and hope he makes it. In my opinion you delay that choice as long as possible.

Just FYI if he makes that kick it would have been a career long by about 2 yards. I don't trust my kicker to make a career long FG in that situation, 4th and 5 with a minute left, I'm going for it. 4th and 5 with 10 seconds left, yeah ok. Too conservative.

The main thing for me is, if you get the first down, you can try to go down the field and get into easier field goal range.

Exactly. 50 yard FG, yeah I do what he did. 60+ yard FG, no way. You got a better chance at gaining the 1st down in my opinion. Granted that doesn't win the game for you, but even if you only get 5 yards closer it's worth it in my humble opinion.

This poor coach.  This time he put the ball in the air after all the criticism of paying for Wilson and not using him.  Russell misses the throw, the coach gets dragged anyway.

The guy might be totally flustered, but his team has failed him.  More than that, the GM failed him.  The Wilson contract is going to be an albatross around the neck of the Broncos for the next 5 years.  What were they thinking?
