It is the last week of the season.

You need to win by at least four points to have a shot at the playoffs.  

You are trailing by five points, and your team scores a touchdown on the final play of regulation.

There is one thing you can do to give your team a shot at winning by at least four points.

What is it?






Answer:

You need to TAKE a safety.  You need to put your fastest player in the backfield on the conversion.  Pitch him the ball and have him run full speed towards your own goal line and out of the endzone.  This results in the opponent getting a one point safety and the game is now tied.  Now you have a chance to score a touchdown and win in overtime

I don't know what it is, but I do know what it isn't: a safety surrendered by the defense on the conversion attempt after the TD.

A 1-point conversion safety does not generate a kickoff by the team that surrenders the safety.

I don't know how the rules work these days, but I think the only way is to force overtime.

Scoring the TD puts you up by one.  Then, you need to find a way for the other team to score.  I don't know if a safety or fumble in your own endzone gives a point to the other team.  But if it does, that.
