Is it me or are there really less political ads these day in Florida?

Seems to me that we aren't seeing as much political fodder being thrown in our faces 24/7.  Does anyone else feel this way or am I somehow luckily dodging them?

I'm out of the loop in regards to FL TV ads, but I can say that, in AZ, virtually every other commercial is political.

FL is quickly losing its status as a swing state, which means the number of ads y'all see should go down dramatically.  I rarely see them in CA.

I don't watch live TV on traditional TV anymore so I don't really see it. DeSantis should be a runaway, no Marijuana on a ballot, etc. so there likely is less.

It's pretty busy politically where I live in upstate NY.  There are a lot of local and state races that are being hotly contested because a couple of them don't have an incumbent.  Also, our re-drawn congressional district doesn't have an incumbent, not to mention it has always been a very close race before the slight tweaking that occurred; lots of outside money to fund all the tv ads.

The only local TV I watch at all, ever, is Dolphins games (unless there's a hurricane coming or something).

With that in mind, there were many ads about 2-3 weeks ago.  I make fun of them every time they come on.  In that deep, troubling voice: "Charlie Crist ate a live baby on his birthday."  "Mario Rubio wet the bed until he was 36."  Etc.

But as of about the last week, they have dried up some.

I've seen fewer ads on mobile devices, which I recall a lot of during the previous election cycle.


I think this is for a few reasons.  Florida has turned.  It's Alabama red now.  So, sure -- put your guys out there, but down the stretch, it's probably lost money.   Miami-Dade has lost is deep dark blue reliability, so the statewide stuff is pretty much done, I think.

But also, I think that we're learning more about Ad spending and it's likely not the way to reach people.  People who watch TV are old people.   The Democratic base that needs to be coaxed into voting is young people.  They're on youtube and twitch and Discord and stuff like that.  So, it's just an old form of media.

I don't watch much live TV but we do record things so I fast forward through the commercials and it doesnt' seems as bad. As well I listen to local radio.  In all honesty I think most political ads are half truths and/or outright lies reagrdless of who is making them. Like social media ... I don't think ads actually sway people anyway ... or at least many people in the whole scheme of things.

Probably because this year's races really aren't that competitive, so DNC and RNC money is going to go towards closer states like Pennsylvania and Georgia. That and DeSantis probably going to try to run in 2024, so he won't spend his fundraising haul on a race he probably wins by double digits.

There's a republican running against dick blumenthal for the senate seat but i couldn't honestly tell you their name, that's how few ads there are for her (i think it's a her .. maybe)

I also think that this is not a policy-based, issues election.

Dems: Election lies are a threat, Abortion rights are getting taken.
GOP: Inflation is bad, groceries/gas are expensive.

That's pretty much baked in and ads don't change which thing people care about and who they trust on those issues.

The New England states are Democrat but they won't want to become California, so they usually have moderates as Governors, whether they are Republican or Democrat. It's just smart business to not be MAGA or AOC if you want to win there.

The New England states are Democrat but they won't want to become California, so they usually have moderates as Governors, whether they are Republican or Democrat.

It's always strange to me when I hear the premise that liberal states "don't want to turn into California or New York."  I don't think I've ever heard anyone say "Indiana doesn't want to turn into Texas" or "Utah doesn't want to turn into Alabama."

I guess it's a telling commentary about the mindset of self-hating liberals vs. fall-in-line conservatives.
