It's always strange to me when I hear the premise that liberal states "don't want to turn into California or New York."  I don't think I've ever heard anyone say "Indiana doesn't want to turn into Texas" or "Utah doesn't want to turn into Alabama."

I guess it's a telling commentary about the mindset of self-hating liberals vs. fall-in-line conservatives.
hahaha ... if you don't realize that many liberals even shake their head at things California, New York, and now the Northwest does then you aren't  paying attention. Hell ... California itself has turned more liberals into Independents and Republicans than Republicans and Independents ever could... hahaha. Places like Texas and Alabama are not near the outliers compared to other red states.

In your opinion, who are the "outlier" red states?
Which states do conservatives point at and say, "Those guys are far too conservative for us"?

My guess would be none.  That the very concept of "too conservative" is basically inconceivable for red America.

DeSantis has a shot at winning this race by 20, which was even higher than my estimates of 12-14 points. Absolute bloodbath. Charlie Crist has now lost an election as a Democrat, Republican and Independent. Hat Trick.

Somebody lied.

There is no way Covid could be that bad in Florida and DeSantis wins by that much.

So how bad was COVID for a Republican president to lose both Georgia and Arizona?

Polling booths do not determine how deadly a disease is.

edit: Your state, MA, currently has a Republican governor, Charlie Baker.  In Tuesday's race, the Democratic candidate, Maura Healey, won the race for governor 63-35, flipping the governor's mansion with a 28-point victory (which is bigger than DeSantis' 20-point victory in FL).

So what does Healey's win tell us about the truth of COVID?

Covid was bad everywhere. People in Florida were just allowed to deal with it as they saw was best for them and their families.

COVID isn't a political issue in this election cycle, D4L.  It's in the rear-view mirror.  Nobody gives a shit, because the disagreements about how to handle it were from 2 years ago.

Here's the ranked importance of issues:  https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2022-election/inflation-abortion-lead-list-voter-concerns-nbc-news-exit-poll-finds-rcna56258
Inflation
Abortion
Crime
Guns
Immigration

Except for Abortion, all of those issues should have favored the GOP.

I wonder why they didn't get the wave they thought.

Edit:

As a hard-working American, I am little disappointed that there was no wave.

However, as a healthcare worker who worked on the front lines of the pandemic, it will be nice to hear the far-right psychos freak out about this.
