I think I asked this last year, but I just don't have a feel for preseason in the current NFL.

The general way it worked for me during most of my life:     *Starters means skill position players, mostly.
Game 1: Starters play 1 drive (sometimes QB doesn't play at all)
Game 2: Starters play 2 drives.
Game 3: Starters play first half, make adjustments, and one drive of 2nd half.
Game 4: Starters essentially don't play.

With only 3 games, what is it now?
I didn't watch the first game super closely, but it appeared that starters didn't really play at all in the first game.

I'm guessing this game is going to be analogous to game 3 of the 4 game pre-season.

also not only did the starters not really play, but 35 starters and backups didn't play at all. It was mostly 3rd string / 2nd string last week

I think this week is equivalent to what used to be game 3 and next week will be what used to be game 4.   Most teams handle it that way but some teams do it the other way around.   The new trend is that the preseason starts around the same time it always has, but there's only three games, which gives teams an extra week of practice to make evaluations before making that final decision on who stays and who goes.

I won't be surprised if you don't see Tua, Hill, Waddle and maybe a couple others at all in preseason.
