Why isn't anyone talking about bringing him to the Dolphins? Surely he can compete for the backup spot with the 2 QB's the Dolphins have currently in that role. Now, I get that 4 QB's is a luxury that nobody wants, but honestly I'd rather have Lance than Mike White who has not looked good in pre-season in my opinion. He could be a nice insurance policy in case Tua doesn't last past this season which if he gets hurt again is not all that unlikely. Being at the 49'ers I would assume that the Dolphins playbook wouldn't look all that foreign. I'd be fine with Thompson as the backup to Tua until Lance is up to speed and I don't mind on giving up on Mike White.

Anyone?

The Niners had every reason to give him every chance they could. If they say he is done, then he is DONE.

The Jets had every reason to give Sam Darnold every chance they could, yet SF apparently thinks Darnold is less "done" than Lance.

They didn't exactly say he was done, they said he's 3rd string. Well he'd be 3rd string here too, but he still has a lot of upside and could be #2 or even #1 here next year if things work out differently then they did in SF.

Lance is a tricky player. I still think he can be a successful NFL quarterback, but what he needs is a ton of live snaps. He's just not had a lot of throws. In college and high school combined, he barely had 400 throws. Add in his two NFL seasons and he's had just over 500 passes in real games since high school. That's 7+ years ago. That's about 1 season worth of passes in the NFL.

I just don't see Lance (who was always considered a raw prospect) improving massively without a team that's willing to put him behind center and stick with him. And not put him too much in harm's way.

With Prescott having turned 30, perhaps Dallas is a good landing spot for him.

Miami certainly wouldn't be good place for him to develop.

Sounds like he should go to the XFL or CFL.

He was just traded to the Cowboys for a 4th round pick.

Worst trade up in NFL history? Probably not the worst bust because he is still young, but they paid a hefty price in draft capital and he's gone after 2 years.

CBS Sports rated it the worst draft trade of all time; worse than SD trading up for Ryan Leaf and NO trading their entire draft for Ricky.

I agree because both Leaf and Ricky were hyped as humongous, can't miss talents. Trey Lance was not. He was just one of the better options in a very weak QB draft and this was known at the time as well.

I wish the NFL could utilize the CFL for player development.

QB is one of the most overhyped positions in the draft and teams who need one will reach for one without giving it a second thought.   Ryan Tannehill had no business going 8th overall but the Dolphins picked him there and stuck with him for a while.  He proved to be nothing more than one notch above a game manager.

I'm just not sure that it makes sense to be adding players like this at this point.  We are ride or die with Tua.  It would be different had you brought Lance in instead of Mike White, but to make that change now seems like no help and a shakeup for no reason.

Tannhill could have been good enough to win one on a more balanced team and if he didn’t set a sack record his first couple of years.

Tannehill got sacked a lot in his first couple years because the front office neglected to shore up the offensive line.   If you look at 2013 when that line gave up 58 sacks, you'll see that in the majority of them, Tannehill didn't have much time to do anything.

I wish the NFL could utilize the CFL for player development.

The NFL should have an offseason minor league to evaluate and develop players and coaches. With playoffs, championship, and all. And once they move a player from the lower league to the regular league that player is ineligible to go back to the lower league. Not to mention it would give the fans something to watch throughout the summer. It would probably be good financially for the NFL and teams.

I was hoping we would have brought in Minshew, but instead we got stuck with White LOL
