The NFL should have an offseason minor league to evaluate and develop players and coaches. With playoffs, championship, and all. And once they move a player from the lower league to the regular league that player is ineligible to go back to the lower league. Not to mention it would give the fans something to watch throughout the summer. It would probably be good financially for the NFL and teams.

Isn't that what the USFL and XFL are apparently for?   I believe both leagues have clauses in player contracts that say that they are allowed to break the contract if they get an offer from an NFL team.

I think people would rather watch their favorite NFL team and other teams they already know. I couldn't every really get into watching those other leagues. Not to mention they always ran into money problems. The NFL, their already established teams, and fanbases wouldn't have that problem.

Then the question is, would anyone really watch the offseason minor league?  You have the same concept as the NBA and their G league, which is understandable, but I don't think anyone watches that either.

Not to mention all the money and planning it would take to start up such a league, when you already have two developmental leagues with eight teams each and established TV contracts for each.   Why not subsidize both and let the AFC work with one and the NFC with the other?

I think the NFL would do better than any other minor league in any sport. The NFL has the highest viewership and revenue which would translate over. I would definitely watch it. I think watching prospective players that might eventually get bumped up to the regular season roster would be interesting. You could find players to make the regular season roster much better, especially for depth when you have injuries pile up.

Every team has their weak points on the roster. For example, the OL for the Dolphins is their weak point. If they could find OL and develop players that have gotten passed over, in a real-ish type minor league season and playing real games against other teams trying to win. You could find maybe a starter and a few backups that would bolster the OL. And I'm almost positive that if they moved someone to the minor league to the regular league, you could get them on cap friendly contracts.

I kind of agree with this, but not in the way that you might think.

The NFL already has a minor league farm system that draws incredible ratings and has multi-billion-dollar TV contracts: college football.
I don't think the market will support a second one.

As do all other sports.

No, the other sports do not have multi-billion dollar TV contracts for their NCAA-based farm systems.  The only one that comes close is basketball, and the G League pretty much proves that there's no viewership market for an additional minor league when the NCAA exists.

There is fundamentally nothing different from an NFL farm team and what is already going on in these BS leagues none of us are watching now. It be insane for the NFL to tarnish brand by attaching it to those leagues.

I meant that that other sports have a college system, a minor league, and a primary league. And the very reason it would work is the reason you mentioned, the NFL is the most profitable and most watched. I think it would boost the NFL through finding better players on regular season rosters. There are plenty of MLB players that played in the minors.

Anyhow, we'll just disagree because I see where this is going.

Tannehill got sacked a lot in his first couple years because the front office neglected to shore up the offensive line.   If you look at 2013 when that line gave up 58 sacks, you'll see that in the majority of them, Tannehill didn't have much time to do anything.

I agree and it hindered his development. He as good enough to wi Trent Dilfer bowl. He just needed the tools to deal with his limitations. Kid had heart and never complained and was more talented than given credit for. He was the second best QB in his class after Wilson because Luck wasn’t tough like Tanny.

I was hoping we would have brought in Minshew, but instead we got stuck with White LOL

I agree 100% and they should do this with the CFL. USFL and XFL are garbage.

No one’s cares about USFL and McMahon is a real bastard so I’ll pass on XFL.

Fans watch them, but I’d watch CFL or Australian Rules Football if they used it for player development. Teams shouldn’t take over but “sponsor” them. It’s a great idea.
