I read that we had over 14,000 people crossed the border in 1 day shattering all past records. Mayors in sanctuary cities are over run and crying foul but the crisis continues and republicans are still bitching about enforcing laws.

My question is for those of you who think open borders are fine. Is there a point where you would ever change your mind and think we should secure our borders or do you think everyone should always be allowed in regardless?

Nobody thinks open borders are fine.  It's a straw man argument.

Really 14000 people crossed all our borders? so a bunch of canadiens fans drove to boston for the game ? Damn canadians, we should keep them out!

This is a stat without context and without meaning.

And I'd like to ask. What immigration crisis?

Can you actually point to the crisis? Are immigrants taking too much welfare? No, that can't be it, illegal immigrants can't get welfare.  Are immigrants instead contributing to the tax base and getting nothing in return? That sounds more likely.

The most galling aspect of this whole "crisis" is that regardless of administration, be it obama, trump or biden, the policies at the borders haven't changed in any significant way. We still don't have open borders, we still don't allow unlimited entry. The only difference is that when Trump was in office, Fox news kept quiet about it, and when biden got elected, suddenly it's a "crisis". Bunch of bullshit is what it is.

The majority of illegal immigrants are people like Melania Trump who illegally overstay their visa.
Republicans' obsession with "border security" (but always only the southern border) is really because they think the country is being overrun with brown people.
Most importantly, the law has little to do with it.  I've asked y'all repeatedly about the legal immigrants applying for asylum, and you want them kept out too.

IMO what really needs to be done is to give a pathway to citizenship for many of the illegals that have been in this country for decades.  Many do the jobs that U.S. citizens have been too lazy or unwilling to do.  If we really deported all the illegal immigrants in this country the country would fall apart.  If you think shortages during Covid were bad it wouldn't come close to the shortages that would result from deporting all illegal immigrants.

Maybe if we had a better method, and admitted more immigrants, we wouldn't have so many crashing the gates.

There's a multi-tiered problem with multiple-tiered solutions that will have to use a lot of resources.

All 50 states need to share in the load, so it's not just Texas and California getting overrun.
We need to be able to process these people and we just don't have the infrastructure and resources, so that has to be built.
You gotta deal with the people who already live here, because rounding them up just isn't realistic.
Dreamers just gotta be dealt with too.  They were kids.

But immigration is good.  It's unchecked immigration that's not.
