I'm old and I really hate some of the ticky tacky rules in the NFL, but when did the "Brotherly Shove" become a legal play?  In my old school mind it was a penalty to push your own ball carrier forward.  I really hate this play because in very short yardage situations this is almost impossible to defend against; if Jalen Hurts, or other QB's, had to get the yard on their own it wouldn't be happening so often.

I gotta admit that I've seen a LOT of plays this year where ball carriers are getting carried for extra yards by their lineman, not just in Philadelphia and I don't like it. The "Brotherly Shove" is just part of the problem. I do think something needs to be done. I don't want the game turning into a Rugby scrum.

This is so easily solved.  Just make a rule that you can't push your own player for progress in the neutral zone.  It's just bad football, it's not entertaining, you can't really tell where the ball ends up, and it's unfairly weighted towards offenses.  It takes away the excitement of actual 1 yard plays.  Just get rid of it.

Ultimately it's going to take a grisly injury for this to be resolved.

If the offense can push their player, then the defense should be able to stack up and push their players into the line.

Yeah, and it's one reason at the top of the list why the "tush push" should be banned.

This is getting to be like rugby scrums, which is the most particularly dangerous part of that sport. The chances of something like a broken neck and/or spinal injury occurring is just too much of a concern to allow this to be part of the game.
