In case you missed it the Dolphins signed another very experienced safety this week to play with Holland and Poyer. I think it's also good he has AFC East experience.  Most people think this was a great signing as he was sought by many teams.

-Maye grew up a few hours from Miami in Melbourne, FL
- Maye has started every NFL game he's played
- Maye had a butt interception against the Dolphins
- Injuries have cost Maye at least 7 games in each of the last 3 seasons
- Maye lined up all over the Jets, Saints secondaries
- Maye missed 3 games in 2023 due to a DUI suspension
- The Jets franchise tagged Maye in 2021 before letting him walk in 2022

I think the secondary should be tits and we should get some coverage sacks to help with our rushers and dline losses until ( hopefully) Chubb and Philips can come back and contribute. If they can give what they were doing before the injuries we can have a damn good defense.

Omar Kelly and Joe Rose have been clamoring for us to sign Calais Campbell and now we have. Hopefully they are right.


On the same day Miami officially signed safety Marcus Maye, who has started all 77 games he has played in his NFL career, the team came to terms with former University of Miami standout Calais Campbell, who ranks third when it comes to sack production for active players. According to the NFL Network, the Dolphins are adding Campbell, signing him to a one-year deal for an undisclosed salary with the hopes that he could fortify a defensive line that was depleted by free agency this spring, and is void of leadership. This will be Campbell’s 17th season in the NFL, but based on his play last season for the Atlanta Falcons he’s still wildly durable and effective. He started all 17 games for the Falcons and contributed 56 tackles, 6.5 sacks with one forced fumble and one fumble recovered last season.

The Dolphins could use Campbell specifically as a 3-4 end, where he would be paired with Zach Sieler, who contributed 10 sacks last season.

He's also nine years older. He will be 38 when the season starts, so I think you can only count on him being on our list for a year or two. Then we have to address this all over again.

In the grand scheme that we are going all in to try and win it all this year, it's fine, it's a move that had to be done to shore up the loss of Wilkins.

This is how the pay scale of the NFL works these days.  You have a few very high priced players (QB, WR, LT, CB), then you have some regular high priced players, then because of the first two categories you need guys on low priced rookie contracts and veterans on their last legs that you hope you can squeeze the last bit of their talent out of them before they retire with relatively low priced contracts for a year or two; all to stay under the salary cap.  Add in the fact that every team enters the season with some of their top guys on the IL, then you really need some of these vets on one-year contracts hoping to get a half season out of them until your starters are healthy.
