What crybabies. Each and every one of us roots for and against teams every week. Let's not pretend that we don't.

Ps. an undefeated season is something they achieved as a team, and as an ever shrinking group of participants.

As supporters we can be proud of them, absorb the afterglow.. but we are just along for the ride. Along with everyone else who supports, or who hates our team.

Calling supporters crybabys is not a good thing.

I understand your opinion, DD, but I just want to be on record that I don't share it at all.

I'm 180 degrees.  I root against teams (and players) often more so than I root for teams.  It's a core aspect of the way I realize my fandom.  And of course none of the things we cheer for are our specific achievements.  I don't see how this is any different that cheering for a team win that we, as fans, had nothing to do with either.  It's just part of the tribalism that is sports.

I root against teams too.  But I don't confuse the Yankees losing the World Series with the Red Sox winning the World Series.  The Dolphin fan base to a much greater extent than other fan bases seems to have lost the distinction.

I think your perspective would suddenly become a lot more sympathetic if the Steelers were playing in February, potentially about to win an NFL-record 7th Super Bowl (and leaving the Patriots behind).

Dolphin fans aren't just randomly rooting against teams because we like to revel in others' losses.  There's a specific achievement unique to the Dolphins that we want to preserve.  It's no different than Chicago Bulls fans rooting against the 73-9 Golden State Warriors.

You are wrong.

Of the potential match-ups, I would be rooting for the Steelers at least 25% of the time.  I want the NEP to win more sb, but i really don't care if the steelers get another.  While I do root against the steelers somewhat often, it isn't about nep getting 7 first but rather it is because my bil is a steelers fan.

I am sure there are some nep fans that think that way, but as I said no fan base confuses other teams loses as there own teams wins to the extent dolphin fans do.

I'm with Hoodie on this. I rarely root for a team to lose. I've never said F the Jets in my life and think the whole concept is stupid. I don't celebrate when the last undefeated team loses. I honestly couldn't care less about what the rest of the NFL does, all I really care about is what Miami does and I've been disappointed for a long time.

We are a cursed sports franchise

In convinced Shula sold his soul to Hungarian devil for 72-73

But this whole thing made me thing and realize that the last time a warm weather AFC team won the Super Bowl was Oakland in the 70s and I don’t think that trend is getting bucked any time soon

On the NFC side of the ledger, Tampa Bay and San Francisco have managed to do okay as warm weather teams.

An AFC warm weather team really should be able to buck the trend... if the organization and team are good enough.

Indianapolis won as a dome team, as did New Orleans.  The Rams have won as a dome team in St. Louis and a warm weather team in LA.

The majority of NFL teams are from cold-weather cities (especially if you aren't disqualifying the cold weather teams that play in domes), so I think it's less an issue of "Can warm weather teams win in the playoffs?" and more "Is it more likely that key personnel wind up in cold weather cities?"

I wouldn't think it necessary to remind the members of a Miami Dolphins forum, but the head coach with the most wins in NFL history coached a warm-weather team, which also happened to be the franchise with the best winning percentage in the 20th century.  DAL and SF, two more warm weather teams, were two of the most successful teams of the 20th century.  So maybe weather isn't as big of a deal as people think.

Spider would know better because I haven't been there but in my head Oakland and San Francisco aren't warm weather cities. They don't fall into cold weather either. I consider them something else in the middle.

Dome is an exception and Indy was a one off regardless

Tampa and NOLA are NfC which I qualified as warm weather AFC team

Yeah Shula is the BOAT but he also didn’t win a superbowl since the 70s

Tampa is NFC and had a couple SF an Oakland are warmish but not warm like Miami is and it’s been a long time since the glory days of SF or Dallas but again they are NFC there has been some warm weather NFC success but zilch for AFC since Miami and Oakland in the 70s and Indy as a cold weather dome with a hall of fame quarterback don’t count

SF proper is basically between 55 and 75 year-round.  (note: the 49ers play in Santa Clara, which is legitimately hot)

But the real substance of the "can't play in the cold" criticism is not about the Dolphins playing in cool weather, right?  Nobody cares if MIA wins a 48 degree game at MetLife or a 53 degree game in Maryland.  We're really talking about sub-40 degree games, and Joe Montana was not playing sub-40 degree home games in SF.
