My trash and recycling get picked up on Saturday morning.

Recycling USUALLY gets picked up well before trash, at like 7:30 AM.

Also, before trash, pickers and salvagers troll the neighborhoods and grab used goods from the trash, broken machines for parts/potential repair, scrap metal, etc.  If you leave stuff out by the road, it gets grabbed before trash comes on a pretty regular basis.

But this week, the recycling guys didn't come at 7:30...for some reason, they came WAY, WAY later...at like noon.  I keep my recycling bins on a modified push dolly -- it houses both of the recycling bins on the little clips and acts as a wheelable stand for them.  When emptied, the recycling guys don't put the bins back on the hooks and they just toss them in the yard.

So, anyway -- in the middle of broad daylight, with my garage door open and me in and out of the house working on Christmas light, the dolly that holds the bins disappeared from the side of the road.

It's possible that someone outright stole it from me.
It's also possible that they didn't realize it was for my recycling bins and thought I was putting a push-cart in the trash or for donation.
And I suppose a third option is that the garbage men threw it in the garbage truck, which I find to be less likely, since they're probably used to seeing carts of this kind.

What do you think happened?

Your stuff was stolen.

What I find strange is that you have residential services on a Saturday. I haven't seen that before.

I would tend to think it was a accident as most stuff left on the curb is assumed free. If they didn't know what it was for they may have just assumed you were throwing it out.

I would probably lean toward the "outright theft" angle... I just don't trust people as far as I can throw a piano.

I went outright theft too.

They have been left out enough enough times for people to know they're not throw away items, and the garbage men haven't taken them before.
