If you have had a GM that has been on the hot seat and you have to replace your QB and draft one high up, it makes sense to make the GM change at that moment.

If the GM is brought in and wants to commit to the coach on the team and they discuss the QB and have the same type of player in mind, I'm fine with the coach staying.  It's harder to do those steps backwards.

Patriots hired Mike Vrabel.  The speed makes me think it was at least partially in the works before Mayo was fired.

I like Vrabel and happy with his hiring but still feel Mayo wasn't given a fair shake.

Remember when everyone was wondering if an NFL head coach had ever spent his bye week in an opposing owner's suite before? Vrabel sat with Kraft and his son in his suite on his off week from Tennessee. You know that deal was basically set before Mayo was fired.

That occurred before Mayo was even hired.  MV was there to be induced in Pats HOF.  I don't see that as much different than a when Flores went to a Patriots SB ring party as the HC of Miami.

The Cowboys and HC Mike McCarthy have now "parted ways":

So I guess you're saying his interview unexpectedly blew them away so they hired him on the spot? LOL

Not saying that at all.  Kraft already formed his opinion of MV long before this interview.  But I don't think what happened at MV induction into the HOF had any relevance.  The fact Kraft thought so highly of MV to induct him might have been relevent.

Would not be shocked if the former Dolphin's WR coach becomes the next NE WR coach.

Is it me, or does Mike Vrabel look a bit like Kurt Warner?

For some reason, I thought McCarthy was deemed safe after the initial wave of firings.  Guess not.

I don't disagree with any of that. I was just using the suite as an example of how close the relationship was. I think Dolphins players voted into the Ring of Honor are in the Alumni suite along with the others who have been inducted.

No, Jerry just hadn't come out and said he was fired yet and said he wanted to talk with McCarthy after the season was over, but that was mainly so McCarthy could tell Jerry that he wasn't coming back instead of vice versa. McCarthy's contract was up this year and there was no talk of a new contract last year. His entire staff was on the last year of their contract, so it was either have a good season or they were all gone and everyone knew it before the season even started, Jerry just wouldn't confirm that and like I said that was basically so that McCarthy could tell Jerry that he wasn't coming back rather than Jerry having to walk him out, like it matters. Basically the decision was made last year not to retain McCarthy past this year unless they made some noise in the playoffs and they didn't even sniff the playoffs.

Imagine if the Dolphins wouldn't have paid Tua before the season and let him play out his final year at Miami without a new contract. You think Tua is coming back after that? Nope. They had to pay him to have any shot at keeping him. Jerry didn't feel the same way about McCarthy.
