Looking ahead to the Draft Miami has 7 Picks:

1 in 1st Round
1 in 2nd Round
none in 3rd Round
1 in 4th Round
2 in 5th Round
none in 6th Round
2 in 7th Round

Now the "Positives" are:

A) Miami is expected to get three compensatory picks, possibly 2 of them in the 3rd round.  These aren't announced until March.

B) Miami finished tied with 4 other teams at 8-9, but since at is turns out Miami played the easiest schedule, they get to pick 13th in the first round. These four teams rotate between picks 13-16 each round.

So Miami has a lot of great draft picks this year to attack a number of needed areas.  Hopefully, Grier doesn't trade them away for a overpriced WR that isn't needed.

The three compensatory picks we are looking at getting are for Hunt, Wilkins and Elliott, and at the moment they are expected to be respectively in the 3rd, 4th, and 7th rounds.

Wilkins snap count fell below 25% on the season, and that could drop the round his contract is valued in from the 3rd to the 4th.

So who do you guys want to draft? I don’t follow CFB enough to have any idea about this stuff.

I just know we need to get mean upfront and get a back who can gain 2 yards

I just want us to get the best available player with out first two picks, and if that suits a position of need it's ideal.

Our first rounder should net us either the best rated interior lineman or best rated safety of the draft. Our second round pick should nab one of the best two rated linebackers of the draft.

I was really impressed by the rushing touchdowns in the Orange Bowl game. Those guys really pushed through multiple tackles to the line and earned those scores the hard way... I couldn't help wondering how one of those would fit into our team?

Yup and we need something like that. We need a bruiser. I know people hate drafting RB’s but I think this year showed the position still has value.

I wanted Miami to go after Henry and the old dog just had 1900 yards.

There are highlight clips of the TD runs in this report.

It doesn't look like Jeremiyah Love (ND) is nominating for the draft, but Nicholas Singleton (PS) is, and is expected to go somewhere around the 3rd round onward.

OK...after doing my first gazillion 2025 mocks for SF, I figured run one for Miami. Four rounds, and I didn't offer any trades, but accepted two that were offered (details below). Basically both were small trade downs to add an extra pick the next round.

My positional shopping list was:

1) Draft best available wherever feasible. This roster needs to add talent across the board, and you do that by maximizing your draft picks.
2) O-line, all positions, starters and backups, and then more back-ups for the back-ups once the starters and back-ups get hurt (est. week 3)
3) A good QB-munching edge rusher
4) Some good back-up skill guys (QB, RB)

Picks and notes:

R1 P19 EDGE Abdul Carter - Penn State  (I believe he may be the best D-player in this draft, so when he slid, I didn't hesitate)
R2 P21 OT Marques Cox - Kentucky  (Missed the big early OT rush in Rd 1, got the next best one available)
R2 P23 CB Jahdae Barron - Texas  (True cover corner that should step in immediately)
R3 P22 RB Omarion Hampton - North Carolina  (Good size, between the tackles guy...consistent, 15 TDs each of the last two years)
R3 P34 C Tate Ratledge - Georgia (versatile C/G)
R3 P35 QB Riley Leonard - Notre Dame (See ya, Skylar...don't let the door hit ya where the good Lord split ya)
R4 P14 G Jonah Savaiinaea - Arizona (No chance he actually makes it to rd 4, but this AZ Wildcats fan can dream...)

Trade Details
Trade Partner: Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Sent: Round 1 Pick 13  -  Received: Round 1 Pick 19, Round 2 Pick 21
Trade Partner: LA Chargers
Sent: Round 2 Pick 16  -  Received: Round 2 Pick 23, Round 3 Pick 22
