Look at the economy when Trump left office as opposed to the one when Biden left office.   If you think you were better off after four years of Pedo Joe and the Boxer Droppin Hoe, I don't know what to tell you.

the economy was better on jan 21st 2025 than it was jan 21st 2021, no question, not even close

The hell it was.    Look at the prices of gas on 1-21-21 compared to 1-21-25.   Look at the prices of groceries, housing, and insurance.   Everything skyrocketed.

We're going to get the economic equivalent of "If Global Warming is real, why is it cold today?"

Also, dig deeper -- this isn't a worldwide issue.  It's self-inflicted with these dumb-ass tariffs.  Our growth as compared to the world economy is in the world position since the 1980s, all directly related to what's happening now.

Give me a fucking break would ya??  That is basically the economy.   Prices of necessity goods/services skyrocketed to an out of control point under the previous administration after Trump fought for four years to prevent that.

The economy when Trump came into office was booming.
The economy when Trump left office was in tatters, due largely to his world-worst mismanagement of COVID; Trump is literally the only President on record to have a net job loss over his term.
The economy when Trump came into office the second time was booming, again.
I expect a similar outcome.

The "price of gas" was low in January 2021 because people had been scared to leave their homes for nearly a year, due to Trump's world-worst mismanagement of COVID!  Of course gas prices went down during the pandemic, but the rest of the economy was totally obliterated!

Which tariffs are directly affecting you because I haven't seen an effects from any. I easily see plenty of people panicking about it but then again, they would gladly support it if Obama was supporting it. Pretty much any whining and complaining these days is political in nature. Hell, A democrat just spent 24 hours talking nonsense to hold up politics and people are hailing him a hero. Absolutely no one thinks it actually made a difference.

So far, just the tanking of my stock portfolio.  I've lot about 13% in the past 18 months.

But many of the tariffs were taken off.  They will go into place today.

Are you suggesting that the tariffs will not be damaging?  Do you support the tariffs?  Be clear.

I support the tariffs if they work out for us in the end. I honestly have no idea if it will work but I do know Trump wins a lot more business deals than he loses. I personally think this will be a short term issue as in the past. I buy mostly American, and have so for many years, so I can't see too many things being too affected for me.

Considering prices have been ballooning for the past three years it will be hard for me to notice the tariff affect but I will try.

Absolutely clownish summary, CF.

To elaborate on exactly what "folding to Trump's tariff threats" entails:  "Ontario Premier Doug Ford says they are willing to drop all tariffs against the U.S. if President Trump is willing to do the same."

In short: the premier of a Canadian province has offered to drop all tariffs if the US does the same, i.e. ignore everything Trump has said about tariffs in the first place and return to the status quo ante.  Not only is this NOT folding, but a premier of a province (which is the Canadian equivalent of a US state governor) has zero authority to enact such a deal!  This is no different than Gavin Newsom offering to drop all tariffs on Canada if they do the same for the US.

How is Trump going to react when Governments don't react, but people do?

There's a groundswell in Canada before any possibility of retaliatory tariffs were proposed by the Government. Liquor stores removing whisky, etc.

Our Government in Australia knows that (especially in a situation we import more than we export to the USA) tariffs are pointless so they won't retaliate directly, but the public here are pissed off and are already talking about a boycott of imported USA products.

My attitude is FUCK THE USA TODAY! in response. This is the way you treat a loyal ally? While you kiss the asses of the most evil, repressive governments on earth?

JD Vance is an especially nasty piece of shit. So all of the UK, Australian, and other allies who went into battles with the USA in Iraq and Afghanistan with no questions asked and sacrificed lives lives alongside the USA means nothing to him? I hope Prince Harry (who actually saw real combat unlike that douchebag) punches the shit out of him on sight.

American goods will go up.  It's simple supply and demand.

The demand to buy American goods will be higher -- there will not be more American goods to buy.  Costs go up.

...not to mention that American good is such a nebulous term because even when things are assembled here, parts and materials are rarely 100% local.  This is a disaster.  Conservatives were all about free trade.  It was libs who supported tarriffs (and even then, they were cut out with a razor to punish things like human rights violations...not blanket tariffs on the world.

This is a tragedy for the American economy.  He also doesn't have the legal authority to do it -- he declared a fake war to give him the power.  Congress can check it but Mike Johnson did some bullshit to technically call the remaining congressional session "one day" so that he doesn't have to hold a vote on it.   ...a vote where many Republicans would side with Democrats to end this.

Trump doesn't give a shit about the economy, America, legacy, voters -- any of that.  He likes the power that comes with being able to do whatever he wants to whomever he wants.  He can reward and punish.

You are going to eat his shit, CF.  I'm looking forward to hearing your excuses about how good it tastes.

It is literally batshit crazy stuff. It ends up being a 10%+ tariff on everything the USA buys... because there just isn't the investment in industry there. Even after this, there won't be the investment there to start it up again. You're all just paying extra into Government coffers for absolutely no reason, because at the same time they are gutting the services they provide to you.

It still ends up being cheaper for a USA corporation to pay a sweatshop overseas to make the goods, or to find a tax loophole to work their way around it. In the end the poor pay for the tax cuts for the rich. That's what's Trump intended, and you dickheads voted for it.

Did you see the list of tariffs we pay and the countries we are placing them on? I mean ... we are basically only charging half of what each country does. Why is it ok for them to charge us? The whole purpose of this is to have them drop their tariffs which will save everyone in the end.
