America's team

« on: January 17, 2006, 04:24:13 pm »

The team people laughed at for bringing in Warren, Ekuban, Brown, and Michael Myers. Ron Dayne. 3 CBs with our 1st 3 picks. OK, so ya got us on Clarette. 8 of 9 ain't bad.

You laughed when we had a horrible 1st game against Miami. Little did anyone know they were a decent team this year.

You laughed at us being the #2 seed, because we would have to go through Indy.

You laughed when the Patriots were coming to Denver. Denver has no shot.

Now, the national media again seems to be falling all over the Steelers because they beat the poster boy of the NFL, Manning.

We're out to get the last laugh, I suppose.

I, for one, never laughed. I was shocked that they lost to Miami and I did say Denver was the second best team in the playoffs next to Indy.  Now that the Colts are out.  You're right.

As for the media,  I'm in total agreement.  And I KNEW it was going to happen!!  MAN I'M TIRED OF BEING RIGHT!  Once Pittsburgh beat the Colts,  EVERYONE was going to say Denver has no shot.  Whatever people...

What's funny now is that I can actually visualize you preening about in a faded John Elway jersey, practicing your Terrell Davis salute in the mirror just so it comes off perfectly crisp, and feeling like we actually received some measure of comeuppance because you happened to (so far) be right about the Broncos.

I am right about 90 % of the time, not always. It just seems that way..... Grin

For the record, I didn't laugh either.

Well, maybe a little bit when they Fins put the smack down week 1...

But since then, not even a chuckle.

You must admit, you were a little worried that week as well.

I beg to differ with anyone that says that they were Bronco believers.  I have records, 16 weeks of them, of a 13-person strong panel that was dying to rank anyone that they could above Denver.  Myself included on some of those weeks.  Even the final week, there were people that put them at #4 and #5 in the league.  Rated Seattle, Cincy, etc above them.

Even now I'm sensing that people are thinking Denver is more "lucky" than a good team due to the fact that they were held to 98 yards rushing against New England and scored 24 of their points off turnovers and a short field.

I guess we'll see this weekend!

2011 NFC East Champions!

I don't understand why Pittsburgh is being so loved and admired.

THEY GAVE THE GAME AWAY when Bettis coughed it up.  THEY CHOKED IT OFF, and shouldn't even be here.  The only reason the Steelers are even still alive, is because Vanderjagt ALSO CHOKED.

Denver is now the top team left in the NFL, there's no question about it.

And here is the national poll from SI currently:

1) Which team will win the AFC title game?

47.6% Steelers will win a close game

30.1% Broncos will win a close game

14.2% Steelers will win easily

8.2% Broncos will win easily

So you have 62% of America liking the Steelers to win.

I saw that poll too, and was a bit shocked.  It's the Plummer effect, Bronco.  No one believes in the guy.

This year?  I don't know what to think.  Miami crushes Denver and Carolina, and get mauled by Cleveland.  Simms led Tampa Bay bounces back from a sub par .500 season with a playoff trip, as did the Redskins.  The Steelers, coming off a tough season, are in the AFC title game.  Carolina, after starting something sick like 0-4 in 2004, and finishing with six straight wins, hot and colded their way into the playoffs this year as well.

Any of the four teams left wouldn't surprise me this year.  I guess that's a good thing that there is no clear cut favorite.

How about no one believing in Bill Cowher, though ? The guy is a known choker. His track record shows that. Watch how tight he gets Sunday. He rivals Marty Schottenheimer in the choke department.

4 AFC champ game appearances, 1 superbowl. 8-9 in the playoffs. His biggest accomplishment was that win against Indy in '95. If i am correct they were home all 4 of those games also. That is a pretty good choke job.
