The story is, Antonio Davis saw someone being confrontational against his wife, jumped over the scorer's table, and went in to break up the argument.  It was NOT a violent thing, he walked up there and did not throw any punches.

He should be suspended for a few games.  Under NO circumstances can you go into the stands.  Even though I would have done the exact same thing as Antonio Davis, you have to be suspended for a few games, because withiout Davis knowing it or not, he could have ignited Pacers / Pistons 2, all it takes is one crazy fan throwing a punch.

I read alittle about this this morning. From what he says he didn't have enough time to alert security or whatever. I would like to know what the guy or woman was doing that was so bad that he feared for his wife that much.

He's gotta be suspended though, yes.

i don't think he should be suspended. I think his wife should be barred from future games.

No, no, no...if a player goes into the stands to confront a fan "FOR ANY REASON," he needs to be suspended. In this case, a couple of games just to slap the wrist and say "no if's, ands or buts, going into the stands is wrong" would probably suffice.

Why would his wife need to be barred from attending? Unless she was buying the other fan his beers and instigating the confrontation, she shouldn't receive anything but an apology from the drunk fan who was bothering her.

I think he should be suspended for one game (the minimum), just as a message that "if you go into the stands, a suspension results."

I don't think you can fault him for the decision, but you also don't want to open the door.

Has anyone else heard the latest news on this? The guy is the son of a prominent political consultant. He is now sueing Davis for $1M. He claims Davis' wife started the confrontation.

What could he possibly sue for? Davis just confronted him from what I saw, and what is being reported he did not touch anyone!!!!! I agree with maybe a 1 game suspension but I would have done the same thing if I were in his shoes....I can't fault the guy for it, he handled it well, unlike Artest!!!!!

Sueing because his wife started the altercation and he claims she laid her hands on his face.

If his story is actually what happened he should sue. His name has been printed in every paper, every website, etc. He is automatically considered guilty right now while Davis and family are "heroes". I guess none of us know what really happened.

Strictly from the perspective of mental makeup, Antonio Davis is to Ron Artest as Gandhi is to Pee Wee Herman.

Phish nailed it when he said that "none of us know what really happened." We can speculate based on the reports, but unless you were sitting behind Mrs Davis and Mr Frivolous Lawsuit, you just don't know.

To play the devil's advocate...some wives of players can be pretty feisty as well, and especially if a fan is brutally heckling their husband. It should be interesting to see what comes out of this one.  Smiley

I see a problem with this.  ...granted, you're not supposed to enter the stands, but it gives an unfair advantage to fans.

What stops a guy from getting up in the face of some guys' wife, to get him suspended?  Five games without an altercation is excessive.  I think that family comes before your job....and when your family is at risk, screw work, screw basketball...take care of your business.

DAVE I agree 100%. Too many people are defending the fans on this - but the players are people too. I never blamed Artest for rushing the stands & looking for the fool to punish him for his stupidity. He deserved it. If you don't want trouble don't go looking for any simple as that. What gives fans the right to throw objects at players? Nothing that's what. In the case of Davis how can you penalize him for how any responsible husband/family man would react? Regardless of who started what if the case is he saw his wife in immediate danger it is wrong to expect to just not worry about it & continue playing the game. I am not saying let the players charge the stands when they please but it must be made clear that Davis did nothing to provoke an altercation he only went to his wife's aid.

Then ball players need to leave their "family" at home and away from their "work place".  Shouldn't be mixing business with your personal life.

Cmon guy. This isnt the same as taking your newborn baby to a mosh pit at a Pantera concert. An NBA game is supposed to be a public venue where everyone is safe. If someone starts harassing your woman & there is no time to call for help then rushing to her aid shouldn't be penalized otherwise what type of message are you trying to send?

I agree 100%.  This guy did not punch, kick, or even threaten the fan.  If it was my wife, I would've done the same thing.

Even Artest had a right to do what he did.  If a fan throws something at you and hits you or walks on your playing field, you have every right to go and beat the shit outta him.
