Did the Yankees do enough to address their pitching for the '06 season?  Will Damon's departure mean a third place finish for Boston?  Can Toronto ride Glaus and Ryan to their first division title in over 15 years?  Will that upstart team in Tampa Bay come roaring to life?

I got:

Yankees
Boston
Toronto

Until Toronto learns how to win in the 2nd half of the season they stay at 3. I like their team and all, but you can see the injury bug biting them again this year. The handwriting is on the wall.

I say the Yanks because they are pure evil, and it gives them strength.

I picked the Yankees as well. Like Dave said, you can't bet against pure evil.

Hey, don't forget that Tampa owns the Yankees. They're a contender !

I'll give my vote to the Red Sox. I like the moves they've made this offseason and think the Jays give em a close run. Yank-me's finish a relatively close, but totally unsatisfying third place in the East.

I'm going to go a different direction and go with the Blue Jays on this one.  Boston made some good aquisitions, recently with the addition of Coco Crisp.  The Yankees still haven't convinced me as far as their pitching goes.  The Orioles and D-Rays are still very weak on both sides of the field.  However, I can see the D-Rays improving as the season goes on.  I just feel that Toronto has made the aquisitions necessary to make a strong run this year.  They definately have a good strong mix of pitching and hitting now, than in seasons past where all they had was Delgado.

I gotta go with  my Yankees. The Sox had a shot last year to break our backs and really make us look like fools. It didn't happen. This year will be another typical AL east season: 1) Yankees, 2) Red Sox, 3) Blue Jays (sorry, Raptors, Carmen Electra only gets you 3rd).

I do think, however, that in the coming years we will see both Boston and Toronto make some serious strides. Not this year though.

"Make some strides" indicates a team that is up and coming, and looking UP at another team...you do know that Boston finished with the exact same record as the Yankees last year...yes?  95 wins for both teams?

The Yankees made improvements to an area that didn't need to be improved (offense) - in, my opinion, is an admission that they know that their pitching is going to be terrible.  They didn't address one need at starting pitching, nor do they have any young arms coming up through the system.

Certainly understand people saying the Yanks will win the division...but discounting Boston as a scrappy "up and coming" team isn't accurate.  They are a team that has won 95 or more games three years running and have improved on defense, pitching and bullpen.

Maine, we did make our usual not-needed offensive changes, but you might want to note that we did improve our bullpen. Well, at least on paper anyway...

Bullpen - yes, there are improvements.  BUT...in adding Farnsworth, you lost Gordon.  So is that an improvement or lateral move?  Adding Dotel will help, but he won't be ready to go until almost the all-star break.

I think Randy will have a bounce back year, and I think Pavano will settle in a little better.  Chacon and Small were flukes, they won't have the same level of success.  Wright might be better served for the bullpen and who knows what you'll get out Mussina.
