I just came back from attending the Royal Rumble (Live) in Miami.
Here are some of the things / results.
1. The Royal Rumble was NOT the last match, they made the RR the 3rd last match, then Cena vs. Edge, THEN Angle vs. Henry, which was strange. 2. The Rumble itself was decent. I didn't like some of the "special" selections that they had (Goldust, Tatanka, Eugene), but oh well. The ending of it came down to Randy Orton (#30), Triple H (#1) and Rey Mysterio (#2). Yes both Mysterio and HHH were #'s 1 and 2. Mysterio won by eliminating both HHH and Orton. The crowd went insane. 3. There were 553 "Eddie...Eddie...Eddie" chants which got completely on my nerves. I expected at least 1, maybe 2 max, but anytime Mysterio did anything, even if he farted, an Eddie chant broke out. It was annoying. So when Animal (From LOD) came out, my friend started chanting "Hawk...hawk...hawk", which was very funny. 4. Cena is the new Heavyweight Champ again, beating Edge by putting him in the STFU. So much for Edge not being a "transitional" champ. 5. The last match was horrid. Mark Henry. Mark FOQUING Henry, are you joking? This match was boring, and it ended in less then 10 mins as Angle pinned him (mercifully). Mark Henry has no business being in any Pay-Per-View event, even if it is the Dark Match. Anyways, after the match, the Undertaker made one of his famous grand appearances. He came out on a horse (that started freaking out after the Undertaker got off of it - I don't know if that showed on TV but the horse was ready to gallop into the stands). He motioned with his arms and hands, and pyrotechnics went off and the lights came on. Then he did it again, while Angle was standing in the middle of the ring, and more pyro's went off, and the ring collapsed onto the floor, which drove the crowd nuts.
More about the actual Rumble Match:
1. Shane McMahon screwed Shawn Michaels by knocking him out of the Rumble. Vince's music hit about a minute before that, which was great to hear. 2. RVD came back to a rousing ovation from the crowd 3. Ric Flair, while only lasting a minute, got an enourmous ovation, as the arena filled with "WoooooO!!!!!!" 4. But by far the biggest "pop", or cheer if you will, was when Rey Mysterio threw Randy Orton over the top rope to win the Rumble.
The "Cruiserweight" match, the Women's Match, and the JBL vs. The Boogeyman match were a disgrace to professional wrestling, in which I took a bathroom break and a "check my email from my cell phone" break. There were also several shots of Vince McMahon backstage in between matches, as he drawed numbers for the Royal Rumble opponents.
OVERALL RATING - B
Mark Henry, in any important match, let alone the last match / title match, was a horrible decision. He is terrible, and simply not believable as a main event guy, or a WWE guy for that matter. No in-ring skills, no character, and horrible. Scrap that, and the JBL / Boogeyman match, and throw in a Rock / Austin / Hogan run-in (which surprisingly didn't happen), and this Rumble gets an A, instead of a B rating.
