SF, despite Hawk still being on the board, has 4 players they want to come out of round one with: Both elite DBs (Huff being the other), Mario Williams and TE Vernon Davis*

OK, I admit that Vernon Davis just flat out impressed me today. In one of the most impressive TE classes in recent memory, Vernon simply dominated at the combine. At 6'3", 250 lbs, he:

* ran a 4.38 40-yard dash ~ (over .15 faster than any other TE)
* broad jumped 10' 8" ~ (almost a foot more than any other TE)
* high jumped 42" ~ (4.5" more than any other TE)
* ...and easily has the best hands of any TE in this class.

Let's summarize...250 pounds, 4.3 speed, 42 inch vertical. Yeah...good luck gameplanning against THAT!

In short, as the subject line claims, Davis is a mutant freak, and I apologize to Vernon and his family for ever doubting him. Whoever gets him has an immediate contributor in the Antonio Gates mold (with better wheels). If SF ends up trading down a little bit off their #6 slot, I'd have no problem at all with Vernon coming to the Bay.

Yeah, I can't see him dropping out of the top-10-12 area now. Ridiculous tools...
