in the bag for miami. He reportedly left new orleans without striking a deal, which is a huge mistake by the saints IMO. I feel once he gets down here the dolphins will put together a package and he'll sign tonite. Just my prediction.

I'm liking the idea of Brees more and more. Maybe bring Brock Berlin in off the practice squad, and we can devote the entire draft to defense. Brock should have a good NFL Europe experience.

I'm sure we will keep disGUSting.  Brees' shoulder is not fully healed and it is questionable that he will be able to start the season.

Gus is open to renegotiating his contract (to lower his cap value) and playing as a backup.  So I'm thinking that's what'll happen unless a team looking for a veteran backup is willing to pay him more.  But Kitna and Collins will probably be ahead of Gus on those teams' lists.  The Redskins are targeting Todd Collins for their vet backup.

One thing for sure..... very very very smart move by Saban and Mueller flying up to Alabama to visit Brees before he could go to New Orleans.  Looks like Nick pulled an old college move and went on a recruiting trip.  Regardless, it showed how much the Dolphins want Brees and probably was a huge factor in Brees decision to leave New Orleans without signing a deal.

Even if we don't sign Brees, at least we gave it a shot.

There's a limit to how much we should pay the guy, especially considering the uncertainties surrounding his shoulder, and while I would love to see Brees in aqua and orange, I don't want to overpay to get him. I really don't mind if we offer him a big contract, just as long as we have a chance to get out after a year (without killing our cap) if his arm turns out to be bust.
