I guess it won't be today....

ESPN.com's John Clayton reports free agent QB Drew Brees (Chargers) put off contract negotiations with the Miami Dolphins until Tuesday, March 14. Brees left Miami Monday evening, March 13, for Birmingham, Ala., where he's rehabbing his right shoulder under the watchful eye of Dr. James Andrews, who performed the operation in January. Contract talks between the Dolphins and Brees' agent, Tom Condon, did not take place because Brees spent the day undergoing a battery of doctors' tests. The Dolphins and Brees are stuck on the amount of guaranteed money Brees should receive. Miami is wary of guaranteeing $10 million of his contract after he came off shoulder surgery

I agree with the Dolphins position.  I would give him the opportunity to earn the difference as a performance bonus.  That way, it will give him the incentive to rehab well.

Let's say he wants $10M guaranteed. I wouldn't mind giving him more, say $12M, but spread it out so that he gets half now and half as a roster bonus next season.

We'll have to pay him more over the length of the contract if we want him to come down from a large signing bonus. It's insurance (for us), but well worth it IMHO.
