I am listening to NFL Radio today, and a guy called in who, after all of these moves this week, adjusted his mock draft and had Lendale White falling all the way to the Fins.

Thoughts?

Â    That would be really damn tempting if he was at sixteen.  If Jimmy Williams, Michael Huff, and Winston Justice were off the board.  I would go ahead and go with the the theory that you draft the best player available at that position.  If we weren't able to get the CB or OT we wanted, I would take him.

We have other needs, sure -- but a guy like that at 16 is a great deal.  It solidifies your backfield.  I would be okay with us grabbing White.

Here's an interesting scenario to think about.  Let's say we do draft White.  Then several months later, Ricky Williams wins his appeal against his year long suspension.  You would then have Ronnie, LenDale, and Ricky.  What do you do?

My thoughts are White will not be available at 16. Some random guy with a mock draft calling into a radio show is not a very credible scenario.

its gonna be an interesting draft thats for sure... first round is real deep, with a bunch of good prospects. its proof that no matter what, you don't throw in the towel to your season in order to get better draft position. thats the biggest loser mentality ever. at #16 dolphins might be looking at: jimmy williams, tye hill, winston justice... lendale white would be very intriguing. sure the phins have other needs, but i wouldn't blame nick for passing up a talent like that.

LenDale could definitely drop to #16, along with Maroney and DeAngelo Williams--they're running backs.

That said, Ricky has a fighting chance of winning his appeal.  Maybe it's uninformed of me, but I've been assuming he'll win.

Nobody is saying that the guy is credible -- it just brought about a discussion.  Who do you see taking White, then?

Best available or not ... rb is not the position I want to see the fins draft in the 1st round. #16 is still going to command a decent amount of scratch, and we don't have enough to toss around for depth. I would love to see us pick up a sleeper RB deep in the draft, but I would rather stretch for more OL, Defense, QB, etc at that position or trading down. If it wouldn't cost us with a cap hit, then trading Ronnie Brown for some good talent and drafting White would rock ... but that kind of shit is out of the realm of possibility.

Just my thoughts ... and they ain't paying me for 'em!

This doesn't make sense for two reasons:

1.  A RB as talented as White will be snatched up long before pick #16.

2.  Ricky will win his appeal.  If you have Ricky and Ronnie in the backfield, you have all the RB firepower you need.  There is no need to draft a guy like White in the first round, especially when you have other pressing needs.

1. A RB as talented as White will be snatched up long before pick #16.

Really?  Mel Kiper had him going as early as 10 to Arizona.  ...that's the earliest, according to Kiper.  But then, there have been all of these FA pick ups this week.

Take a look at the picks between 10-16.

Arizona - just picked up Edge, so unlikely they'll draft a RB.
Rams
Browns
Ravens - just re-signed Jamal Lewis.
Eagles
Atlanta

It's not unheard of that he'd fall.  We don't really need another back, but White is a big player, and the small back/large back combo seems to work well in the NFL.  I don't think it's such a stretch for White to fall to 16, especially after the moves by Baltimore and Arizona this week.

We really don't need to draft a LenDale White or any RB in the first couple of rounds. Miami has plenty of needs to fill outside a second RB.

I really am starting to believe that Jimmy Williams will slide a little bit. If Miami could get him at #16, I'd think it is a no-brainer to grab that guy to anchor the Phins' secondary.
