Vikings deal Culpepper to Miami for second-round pick By John Clayton ESPN.com The Dolphins decided to stop waiting for Chargers quarterback Drew Brees to lower his contract demands and opted to give the Vikings a second-round choice to acquire quarterback Daunte Culpepper. Culpepper had been talking to the Dolphins for the past week, expressing his desire to be with the Dolphins along with showing a willingness to rework his contract to fit into the Dolphins salary cap. Contract talks between the Dolphins and Brees have been stalled because the Saints had more money and more guarantees on the table from the Saints. Vikings coach Brad Childress said recently Culpepper is on schedule in his rehab from surgery in which he tore three knee ligaments after having a trainer fly to Florida to meet with Culpepper. The recovery time from such major surgery is 12 months, but Culpepper has told the Dolphins that he's ahead of schedule and may be able to play before September. Finding a quarterback this offseason was Nick Saban's main objective. Though he liked Brees, he was unwilling to give him $10 million in guarantees after he is coming off shoulder surgery. Culpepper's trade clears the stage for the Saints to get Brees. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2368259

I think I need to rephrase my statement about the first round pick...I just feel our first round pick needs to be a good one...because we just blew our second round pick....

I'll just say this: Â Culpepper may not be a HOF quarterback (then again, he's young enough to change that), but let's remember that he threatened Dan Marino's TD record a few years ago throwing to Moss and 3 "who dat" receivers. Â Here he'll have 2 very good receivers, an excellent tight end, and two excellent running backs. Â I'm pumped to see how this goes. Â
Besides, I'd rather a guy that can't move so well (after knee injuries) to a guy that throws like..he just had shoulder surgery...and Brees may come back from surgery the way Pennington did last year. Â As for the fumbles, maybe a loss of running ability will lead to less fumbles (he'll take off running less)...but then, I'm ever the optimist.

i think daunte is the best 2nd round pick ever for this franchise
Totally agree. Only time will tell which QB will work out better. Â Saban sure is not a person you want to mess around with. Brees must be hating himself now.
