OK guys, as the time of the draft is drawing closer, I'd want to take stock of the Dolphins recent moves and look at how that alters their draft plans.

One thing is for sure...... with the re-signing of Damon McIntosh leaving a glut at OT, and the interior of the line pretty much set, I seriously doubt the Dolphins take Winston Justice or Eric Winston with pick #16.

Defensive back would be my first choice with either Michael Huff, Jimmy Williams, or Ashton Youboty sure to be available at #16.  With the releases of Reggie Howard and Sam Madison, we are very young and inexperienced there.  I'm not sure if the Dolphins are gonna re-sign Lance Schulters or go after Ty Law, but assuming they don't, this unit is their top priority.

Wide Reciever would be a surprise, but then again it wouldn't.  While Marty Booker did an impressive job in the #2 slot, I wouldn't mind having a game breaker there.  I can see the Dolphins grabbing Santonio Holmes or Chad Jackson if either one is available.

Linebacker would also be an intriguing option as Zach Thomas is starting to show signs of breaking down.  Now would be a great time to start grooming his replacement.  Ernie Sims or AJ Hawk would definitely make suitable candidates.  However, don't be surprised to see them going after AJ Nicholson in the lower rounds.

Lastly, they gave up their second round pick to get Daunte Culpepper and their sixth rounder to get Cleo Lemon, so I would definitely consider those two part of this draft.

Any thoughts?

I think that corner is the way to go here.  Huff would be great, but he won't slip.  ...we'll be lucky to get Jimmy Williams, but that's what we're looking at.

I totally disagree about your O-Line take, though, Tommy.  I don't think that Saban would pass on an o-lineman because they signed McIntosh.  I have a feeling that Damion is an "in case shit" player, if the team can't find more suitable players, at least you can retain someone with knowledge of the system.  And he can easily be cut, if they sign another guy and need roster space.

I see us taking a CB in the first round or even a safety.

DB even after signing Deke Cooper?  We can only pay so many guys in the secondary.

Cooper plays safety. We are still in need of an upgrade at CB.

Even if we can't get Michael Huff or Jimmy Williams, there is another DB who has greatly increased his stock throughout the combine.  Donte Whitner has posted numbers just as good as anyone else, and in many cases, better numbers.  He's got 4.4 speed with great breaks on passes, and he played both corner and safety in college.

I took a look at our roster last night, and I see four positions we could draft in the first round: OLB, OT, CB, and FS.  Personally I'd like to see us draft a CB unless we get Ty Law or Charles Woodson before the draft.  If we did get one of those guys, I would take a FS if there is one with the talent necessary to be a #16 pick.  If that didn't happen then I would take an OLB...unless we sign Lavar Arrington before the draft, in which case I would take an OT.  But the only way I would take an OT is if all three of those improbable things happened.  At CB I would take Jimmy Williams, at FS I would take Donte Whitner, at OLB I would take Ernie Sims, and at OT I would take Winston Justice.  All four I feel will still be left at pick #16.

I see Wr with all the DB signings.   Booker will be let go after this season, so now is the time to pick up his replacement.

However, I do think Williams will be hard to pass on.
