Here's another good piece from Bob Flanders at DolphinBlog.com.  With the hearing on Ricky's appeal coming Monday, I thought it would be a good read.  I, for one, tend to agree with it:

Within the last couple of days, a bit of nervous anticipation has crept into my thought process regarding Ricky Williams. On April 10th 2006, Ricky will appeal his failed drug test to the NFL.

This day is as big as any this off-season. If Ricky loses, the Phins lose what I consider to be one of the top 5 running backs in all of football. Last season--- once Ricky regained his sea legs, he was devastating to opposing teams late in the game. I most certainly attribute the Phins late season success to Ricky Williams. How many 25 to 30 yard TD runs did he pop late in the 4th quarter in that 6 game streak? Plenty.

I expect Ricky to explode out of the gate this season. It took Nick and gang the first 4 to 5 games last season to figure out how to use Ronnie and Ricky in the backfield. Once they did, you saw huge games out of the R & R Brothers. I admit that at the beginning of last season, I thought the 2 RB strategy wouldn't work. I was wrong and I'm glad I was.

This is why it is important why we have two all-star running backs.

If we preserve our running backs during the season, they will devastate in December. We preserve them with 15 to 20 rushing attempts each, per game, not 30 to 40.

Fresh legs in December, especially legs that belong to a couple of stud running backs, can be devastating to opposing teams.

My favorite quarter during a football game has always been the 4th quarter. I'm sure most of you feel the same way. In that quarter you can see the very core of what makes NFL football the greatest game on the planet. You have these huge warriors banging heads for the previous 45 minutes--- blood is flowing, puke, shredded uniforms, exhaustion--- and there's still 15 minutes to go until games end.

A great 4th quarter is equal to the 12th round of a middleweight title fight--- back and fourth, punch, claw, kick, stomp, back and fourth, back and fourth--who's gonna be left standing at the end?

And that's where Ricky and Ronnie come in to play. As the opponents linebackers and DB's are staggered by sheer exhaustion, here come the fresh tree trunk legs of Ricky and Ronnie. It's like the ghosts of Jim Brown, Larry Csonka, John Riggins, and Emmitt Smith coming right at you and you can't get out of the way. BING, BANG, BAM! Spirit broken--Game over.

And finally--- I love to see Ricky run with the football. There's only a handful of NFL players that I make sure to not take my eyes off the TV when they're in the game. Ricky is my top guy. Especially in the 4th quarter. It would be a huge shame if the NFL deprived me and countless other football fans the opportunity to watch such an extrodiary athlete because he digested some stupid herb that was buried in some stupid Yoga supplement.

April 10th-- Big day.

Now, why do I agree with the above piece?  The fresh legs part pretty much says it all.

Imagine you're a linebacker for the opposing team, playing in Dolphins Stadium in mid-September or October.  It's92 degrees and the humidity is at 97%.  You've just played through three quarters of grueling football in this suffocating heat.  You're exhausted, dizzy,  cramping up, and have had to take an IV on the sidelines.   Now it's the 4th quarter and you're back on the field sucking wind.  You desperately need to stop this team in order to get the ball back.  You're way outta gas, in fact, your energy level is down to petro fumes.  But, every time you turn around, one of these two running backs comes plowing into you with the same energy they had in the 1st quarter and you no longer have the strength to bring them down.

WE want ricky.  remember what a big part of that win streak at the end of the season he was.  They put him in second half against M&M's Bills, and he was the determining factor if I recall correctly.

Partially, but it was mainly Chambers and Rosenfels.

I think we can Ricky goodbye this season.  Jason Cole hinted on AM790 today that Ricky wasn't going to win.  The reports so far are not sounding good.  But, rumors are rumors.  It's supposed to take 2 weeks now for a decision according to a news source.

I'd rather use my energy hoping for Culpepper to heal faster than worry about Ricky.

Apparently, Ricky insisted he didn't use the substance he tested positive for and his claim was it doesn't correspond to his lifestyle.

According to a source, NFL Officials are dubious about the claim and are expected to suspend Williams unless he can prove he was taking a substance that mimics the drug he tested positive for.

Funny...the first sentence in that post says " Here's another good piece from Bob Flanders at DolphinBlog.com."

Shouldn't it say "Here's another good piece from the Miami Herald?"

Trust me...some of us here try to discourage it as well.

Oh, sorry I missed that.  My latest post, about "accodring to a source, league officials are dubious about Ricky's claims" came from the Herald.
