I can see it now....

Vick joins the team, works his way into the starting role, plays 7-10 trouble free years, leads the Dolphins to 2-3 Super Bowl wins, THEN gets into trouble and we'd have a ton of people saying, "I told you!  I knew all along he was trouble!"
 Grin

Is Vick better than Lemon?  Can he switch positions a la Antwaan Randle El?

Most people eventually grow up.  Maybe Vick has.  Maybe he hasn't.  Give him a short leash and allow him the opportunity to earn a spot.  First sign of trouble set him loose.

Nick Saban knows how to deal with troubled players: Williams (Wacky Tobacky).

Yeah, Saban set him straight didn't he.  Roll Eyes

Truth of the matter is that if his last name wasn't shared by the NFL's posterboy, he wouldn't be given a shot in any NFL camp. So many college players have the talent that he has, and never get their shot. There's also a lot of college players involved in the type of off-field things Marcus has been involved in, and teams will not touch them. Vick is only getting a shot because his last name is Vick. If his last name was Johnson, or Gobeckney, or Fein we would've never heard of him after he got "cut" from Va. Tech

I'm looking at the big picture. Plus apparently, whatever he tested postive for, it was in December- DURING the season.

I wish people would stop defending that loser.

Ricky was nothing but trouble during the season!

He started out on the bench until game 5, took a full 2 games to be at NFL game speed, and then was walking on egg shells the rest of the way out.  Then in December he smokes again (and probably smoked during the season as well).

I agree with you Philly.  These people that defend Ricky are the same types of people that will stay in relationships after years and years of being cheated on and fighting and abuse because "I still love them", praying they will magically change someday.

The point: Marcus Vick is a punk kid who is living off the name "Vick".  And, like i've predicted earlier in 2006 - Michael Vick will not be in the NFL by 2008.

Yeah, the whole team was derailed and finished 0-4 when he rushed for 378 yards and 3 scores in December.

I wish people would stop being so vindictive.  It's like they were personally harmed by him.

I'm sorry, I just can't let this slide.  Call Ricky what you want -- a druggie, a scumbag, but don't say that he was trouble during the season.  He carried our team to wins down the stretch, and was the most productive player we had, IMO.

Hmmm.  I guess those 3 Pro Bowl players we had got there by popularity alone  Wink

I can see Marcus & Daunte battling for the starters job, considering they are both the same player.

Michael Vick is barely NFL material.  His crappier younger brother is nowhere near NFL material.

I disagree very strongly with this. Michael Vick most certainly is NFL material. Starting material, even. He is not, however, like (most) other quarterbacks and to exploit his unique strengths, you need to gameplan around that. Atlanta did that, at least to some extent, pre-Mora. Now, the offense basically plays to Vick's weaknesses (and he does have those).

I haven't seen Marcus Vick, so I can't give any first-hand impression of his abilities. From what I've read elsewhere, he does a lot of things better than his brother. Nowhere have I seen his abilities on the field denigrated in the manner that they are here.

Looks like its official.

While I don't like the idea of Vick in aqua and orange, we could probably get him for the league minumum, and do away with Lemon. Vick as the third string behind Culpepper and Harrington wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing...As long as he knows his role, and that he won't get a second chance from the Dolphins if he screws up.

I don't think it's any problem to have Vick in for a workout as an undrafted FA. What I'm worried about is this scenario:

Vick is scared shitless by not being drafted and decided to get his shit together for a few weeks. He plays hard and shows discipline at this rookie camp. He's given a preseason roster spot and makes a couple decent plays in limited time. Given the Dolphins' horrible depth at quarterback, he makes the team. Culpepper isn't ready for Week 1. Vick is the number 2...a heartbeat away from the starting QB job.

What a nightmare.

Or, a dream come true Smiley. If Vick actually does make it that far and shows some dedication throughout the year (includes not getting into trouble), there's a good chance we could convert him into a mid-round draft pick.

That said, it seems like our coaches really like Lemon. That's going to make it VERY hard for Vick to get a spot (I don't see us keeping 4 quarterbacks, although an injurred #1 is the best excuse to actually do just that). Basically, he would have to convince Saban that he's starting material with a bit of development.
