Have any of you ever had an ulcer? I've been throwing up blood today. No or very limited appetite, but no real pain in my stomach. And, a fever that comes and goes.  Does this sound like an ulcer? If not, what does it sound like? If it doesnt get better overnight, I'll likely go to the hospital tomorrow, and probably have to drink that nasty purple Xray dye.

Throwing up blood should be an immediate signal to go to the hospital.

I've had ulcers twice:  once from H-pylori bacteria, and once from apparent over-use of Advil (ibuprofen has been linked to ulcers).  Anyway, I never got to the "major ulcer" point where I was throwing up blood, but even so, the stomach pain was unbearable at times.

Regardless of what it is, puking up blood is majorly worrisome.  Get to a hospital ASAP.  Like, now, Frimp.

Man, if you're throwing up blood, you need to get to a hospital.  I want you around to hang out with when the Vikings come to town.

Also, you might want to consider a little vacation from the smokes.  Both you AND Ms Frimp.

I seem to be ok. I was going to go to the hospital, but felt better this morning. No more nausea, or vomiting. I was able to get a good nights sleep last night, and eat a good meal today. (I am convinced that all they would have told me was to take it easy, avoid stress, and give me a pain killer or something, and charge me $2000) But, I will go if I start puking blood again, I will go right then.

Smart move..... but I would try to do as AZ did and quit smoking.  That might have something to do with it.

Thanks.  Smiley

So far so good. I'm avoiding my favorite food and beverage too...hot wings and beer. I havent had hot wings since last Saturday...I usually only eat them once a week on Saturday anyway. And, I havent had a beer since Tuesday.

Assuming it's an ulcer, it's not going to go away just because you avoid beer and chicken wings.  Stress and eating habits might be aggrivating the situation at this point, but you need to address the underlying infection in your stomach.  Maybe you don't need to go to the emergency room, but you really should go see a doctor.

Of course, it might not be an ulcer.  Stomach cancer is another good option.  Liver problems can also cause a person to spit up blood.  Pain isn't a very good indicator of the severity or the location of the problem.  The nerve endings in the abdominal area aren't very good at localising pain.
